Webers from Mr. Inglese
I finally broke down and decided to get a set of 48 IDA's for my 289 Cobra. It was great working with Jim, and he did an amazing job building my carb setup. Hoping to install next week after I get all the pieces and parts together to make it all work with my current setup (trying to keep my heater and bypass while running the dual neck fuel log) I promise to post lots of pictures of the install for now this will have to do.
Best Regards,
Byron

You'll notice the difference, right off. Looks like a great setup!

Byron,
Congrats! Looks great and can't wait to hear how the car performs. Would like to get a set of 48 IDA's for the race car some day, but that will mean a whole new engine as not only would I have to switch out the carb and manifold, I would also have to get a new cam as the lobe separation on this one is outside of the range that IDA's like. With all of those changes, might as well have a second engine. Enjoy.
Jim

First progress made towards the new setup. After attempting to install the throttle linkage tower, I realized the holes were not quite right to line up with the holes in the back of the cylinder head. Tried to make it work by working the bolts in slowly which of course caused some cross threading. Finally after some fine application of my drill to the bracket to slightly enlarge the holes, and some tap application to the threads in my head. The bracket is in.
Very happy I ordered some new valve covers as the linkage won't clear the ones I had. Many thanks to Nick Acton for a beautiful set of comp valve covers that will look amazing with my new Webers. A few pics of the new valve cover and the throttle linkage tower. Hopefully the links work.

My advice with carb fuel hose is run them down hill to the front, so the banjos are definitely the highest point per carb.

Thanks for the advice on running the fuel lines. As far as the side draft thing goes, I cannot figure out for the life of me why all the pics I try to upload to this site end up being sideways.

Byron

After several fun hours yesterday I was able to get my Weber manifold and carbs installed. I was getting very exited until I went to re-install my distributor only to find out that it won't clear. A quick phone call to Jim and I was on my way to Summit's website to order a new smaller diameter distributor. This of course was somewhat frustrating especially since I had just ordered a new rotor and cap for my old distributor. On a side note, if anyone needs a flamethrower distributor setup I have one available.
The final piece of course was installing my new valve covers (custom made by Nick Acton) the passenger side one fits great, the drivers side one will not clear the fuel lines on the side of the carbs. So I am sending it back out for re-work, and will be on the lookout for a loaner set of valve covers so that I can at least get the car running and tuned while I wait for my valve covers to get re-done.
I am now beginning to understand why no project ever stays on budget.
At least they look good.
Best Regards,
Byron

Looks great Byron. Wish that i had a loaner set of valve covers to send your way. You are not that far away from start-up. It never fails that there is always one more little thing that needs to be addressed...

Thanks for the offer, I have a couple of the Shelby club guys I hang around with that can probably help me out. One guy I know has about 100 pairs of various valve covers on his garage wall alone. I am hoping he will loan me a pair.
Best Regards,
Byron

I'm trying to picture how your drivers side valve cover fouls the carb fuel lines.
Can you post a photo from the drivers side?

I tool just realized I had the same problem. I have a SBC intake, IDF 44's and I found out I need a "mallory" distributor. Not sure what part number I need but i need the smallest one they got. Really don't want to think about a front mounted distributor for this SBC.

Here is the best pic I have that shows the clearance issue with the drivers side valve cover. Nick Acton was able to cut off and change the angle of the tube slightly. The cover is being re powder coated and will hopefully be back to me around Thanksgiving.
In the meantime a good friend of mine lent me a set of original 289 valve covers off of one of his many Shelby mustangs so I could get the car up and running. Unfortunately after many hours of troubleshooting electrical issues with the ignition, it would appear that the ready to run distributor I received from MSD was anything but ready to run. Apparently the circuit board is non functioning so it was unable to send a signal to the coil to fire. I started to do some research and this is apparently a common problem. Thankfully Summit is willing to refund my money, and I have decided to go with one of the Pertronix stock look distributor which should clear my Weber carbs.
This of course means more days to wait. At least the weather has been crappy so I don't feel too bad about the Cobra being down.
Best Regards,
Byron

Byron, are you sure that with all the fuel linkage mechnical pivot points, that it'll stick at some point ? But, is that how the original's were set up ?

There is no interference with the throttle linkage. The interference was with the breather cap and fuel supply line to the front carb. The valve cover wouldn’t seat properly (you can see the gap in the 1st pic)

Ok, I see it.
Once tunned, you'll love it.

Are you going to run open without screens or foam filters or do you have filters under those red protective caps?

Thanks for the photo Byron.
Yes, that's fairly obvious, clearly wrong angle of the vent tube.
Hope you get it sorted.
