Today I am looking at how to get the webers tuned. It looks like I have the wrong cam in the car for good weber running.

Yes, Weber's can be very touchy regarding the lobe separation angle (LSA). I was thinking about changing my engine over from the carb to Webers, but then did a little research and found out that it would not work without a lot of changes. I have an LSA of 106 which makes for a nasty sounding lope to the engine and works nice with the setup that I have. Weber's do not like to run on an LSA of 106; they prefer an LSA of 110-114 from what I have seen. If your LSA is outside of that range there is a good chance that it will be difficult to get them to run right.

Good luck with the change over. I never had power steering in my Cobras so I would be of no help at all on this. I had a very tight rack and pinion steering in the first one and really liked it but it wasn't power. But I am sure that some of the members here that have power steering can give you some help. It sounds as if you are making good progress.

Mike Stenhouse on the Second Strike has information on changing over to power steering.

My Indie got off the intake today and found the gasket between the intake and heads completely gone on one side and half gone on the other...so that has no doubt been contributing to the backfiring and lean running.

It appears to be a mustang 2 manual rack. I am thinking I can buy a power rack for the mustang 2 and swap them out. They also sell hoses that are ford on one end and chevy on the other. Looks like I can get 2.5 turns lock to lock. I'd like less....anybody have any experience with this subject?

Maybe a racing supplier. I just looked at Speedway and the 'fastest' rack they have is 2.5 turns lock-to-lock.

If anyone knows autocross and Cobras, it would be Bruce Camburn ( Cobra 3170 ) on this site. The search button is your friend.

Thanks Ted!
Unfortunately searching his name and his handle (cobra 3179?) did not bring anything up. I'll try autocross.

Have you looked at going to electric steering or are you set on hooking up a hydraulic set-up? Unisteer makes an electric unit that fits between the rack and column and you can adjust the sensitivity. I think it runs around $1200 list If you are handy at some fabricating, you can use an electric unit from a Saturn Vue which costs around $75 and adapt it to your car. They make a kit for about $80 to allow you to adjust the resistance from very easy power to something like manual by putting a dial on the dash.

Ok, my bad, it's "Cobra # 3170 " Searching can be tricky, so here's step-by-step:
Go to forums-all cobra talk-search-advanced search-search by user name-"Cobra # 3170-select "find threads started by user".
Prepare to spend the rest of your free time reading it all.
Quick over view: Bruce bought CSX 3170 brand new and started competing with it in the Optima challenge event around 2008 ? a multi-event competition (drag race, road course, accelerate -stop in a given distance, fastest time. autocross, and car show.
He.won the event 4 out of five ( didn't win the car show) and they invited him to NOT come back!
He then decided to concentrate on autocross, and the rest is history, all detailed in his posts here on CC.

Hi. Thanks for your thoughts!
I have electric power on my Lotus 7 replica. I believe it is from the saturn. It works very well, but I don't believe it will fit in the Cobra.

Oh, hah! I actually did the correct 0 when searching but just did the typo on the post here. I see you have more info below. I'll check that out.
Thanks very much!

I researched options. I looked at the electric power steering unit that is in my Lotus seven replica. It is based on a small chevy (cruz?) and has some good features including an adjustment for assist. It has zero feel though and it takes up a space the size of a medium sized muskmellon. I don't have room for it.
My manual rack is a flaming river and is mustang 2 based.
So I have ordered a t-bird based power rack which I believe will bolt in. The body of the rack is aluminum. The rack has 2.5 turns lock to lock. I would like less but could not find one. A saginaw pump will bolt onto my Chevy block and hoses to match the odd ends can be bought. I'll wait to order them after the large stuff is installed. I also ordered an aluminum ps pump.
Anybody need a mustang 2 based manual rack with 2.5 turns lock to lock with 3,000 miles on it? I'll sell it reasonably. It's about 45" long overall.
