The last 3 or 4 clutch change-outs I've done has been without a "professional" clutch alignment tool. I simply use a 6" or 12" 3/8" socket extension tool and a roll of electrician's tape. I wrap the bitter end of the extension with tape so it fits snugly in the end of the crank and then measure where the splined portion of the clutch disc will be riding on the extension. I then wrap that part of the extension with tape so it fits snugly in the clutch disc. This procedure has never failed me on the first attempt!

I have no doubt about that. I'm just deciding whether I should place a bet on whether funfer2 disregards my advice and eats his thrust bearing for lunch.

By special spacer between the TKO and block, do you mean the bellhousing?

Alright, but it is between the the transmission and the block, just not right up against the block.

I used this McLeod clutch alignment tool from Summit a few months ago. Snug fit but worked fine. FE, TKO, McLeod clutch

I also have the McLeod T/O bearing: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/MCL-16031

What were you posting on the local club board about having to take your valves apart or something?

Was bored.
I finally got the engine back in the car after the rebuild from the failed #5 main bearing (remember that thread?). After cam break-in I had to put the inner springs in and was looking to borrow a valve spring compressor that worked with shaft mounted rockers. I learned that the lever style typically used for stud mounted rockers has a slightly rounded area on top where the lever bends and is designed to work with rocker shafts.

Yes, I remembered that something had happened... but it was soooooo long ago that I couldn't remember what. I figured your car had just been over at Scott's house for the past year or two again.

What size of the bushing/bearing did you use ?
Think I'll try a bearing.
I need to know the bearing size to buy the correct tool.

A "self-aligning" TOB is better for you.
