Slipping clutch! How much more can I go with a cable?
Clutch is slipping under hard throttle, already in gear.. This is whats in the car.. "Ram Performance Clutch" pressure plate #415 long style non-adj it's 10.5 inch and only 1800 lbs. The disc is one of "Rams" better --# 905 it's 10.5 inch x 1 1/16th - 10 spline.. Lakewood bell-fork-bearing-pivot.. Trans is a Tremic 500-ford-10spline... Engine is a "Keith-Craft" 408 W. 535 HP & 556 ft. lb. TQ.. Right now the clutch is by cable, and pedal pressure is pretty-easy!! I'd kind-a like to keep it cable..(it's simple) Everything else staying the same-- RAM has a 2600 lb. pressure plate. I wonder if that would hold it.. All this is in my Shell Valley Coupe- about 2400 lbs. Tires are 315-35r-17 and a 3.25 gear.. A few yrs back I remember braking a Z-bar (75 Ramcharger 4wd-
12" monster pressure) CAN I HOLD THIS THING AND KEEP THE CABLE?? How much more do I "really" need. THanks!!

You've got something else going on, as your current clutch combination will support 650 flywheel horsepower.
I would make sure that your pressure plate isn't being preloaded by your throw out bearing, or you don't have something leaking onto your clutch disc.

How many miles on the clutch?
If it is still new, has it been run-in?
Freeplay at the pedal?

There's about 20,000 miles, on it. Noticed clutch slippage when the Nitto tires got put on! The old dunlap's would break loose. I've found the 1800 lb. pressure plate is rated to 550HP. This 408 DYNO was 535HP but the torque was 556 ft lb tq.. The next pr./pl. is same 10.5 but 2600 Lb.. I think that's what I'll end up with.. Thanks for chimen in..
