Kirkham alert !!l
KMP 235 is on "Bring a trailer" auction website by original owner (2005) was brushed aluminum, now painted red.
4 days left, current bid $ 50,945,
Is a ringer for my car, so I'll be watching to see what it goes for, if it sells!
Probably has a reserve on it.

I've never understood why someone would paint a beautiful aluminum car. Might put a wrap on it, that could be fairly easily removed, but the idea of a nice brushed aluminum body is very unique.
Just my 2 1/2¢ worth.

Yes Ted, I have been watching since the start, most of the comments are just what a neat car etc, etc. You wait till the last hour or so, for the real bidder's to show, just about every auction on BaT, the day before it end's, the money is about half, of what it end's up selling for (Or the reserve isn't met). So around 50K now should bring 100-120K, I would guess. Lot of fun to watch, but pretty nerve-wracking when it's your car !!!!! I've sold 5 of my cars there, did better there, then any other site I looked at (Real bidder's, Real money)

I can think of a few reasons:
1. Not everybody wants the chrome bling look
2. It's difficult to maintain
3. Original cars were PAINTED
4. Yours doesn't have to look like most everybody else's
6. You have a favorite color you want to express yourself with
Fiberglass car owners can also choose to have a chrome/polished aluminum wrap if that's the look they are after. Some of them can turn out very well depending on the installer. Also, no dents (:

All of the originals were aluminum and all were painted.

Lots of info on the site by the owner. Someone alluded to possible dents from track time (racing ?) that required some "fairing compound " so that ruled out leaving it bare al.
was painted in 2010.
Alfa02 I'm well aware of how this present bid is a red herring ! I am watching because this car selling price will (maybe) give me an idea of where to start pricing on my car !

A polished aluminum car is certainly flashy but not my cup-o-tea. I do like the brushed aluminum, industrial/military-ish look. That's just me.

Maybe at Earl Scheib. After I got mine which was British Racing Green in inquired about a repaint on it to Guardsman blue. I was quoted 12-15K for an on-body repaint, 20K+ to disassemble. I've heard similar numbers for those who have had Kirkham's done because of the cost of the prep on the aluminum.

I have to agree with twobjshelbys. I spent a year looking for just the right shop to paint my car. Even though the PNW have some great shops. The car had never been painted, so just gel-coat. Found a shop I trusted to do the job (They did a great job) By the time I wrote the check, put it this way, it was between 15-20K. Now we didn't cut any corner's, but I doubt still that would have saved maybe a couple thousand.  |

i wrapped mine in clear over brushed metal. 6k the curves on the car make it a very complex job

so far so good. its been on about 6 months. grime does chase the joints and you do have to have them. I put the stripe under the clear. not sure if this was a good idea or not. If i had put them on top i could have removed them or changed color! sun is not a problem and i am in so cal so rain is not a factor
The car just pops in the sun shine with the gloss wrap.
we did do a test with the matte clear wrap and the look was wild. Dead Flat brushed aluminum. In the end i did not pick that but omg it look way cool. maybe for the daytona  |
