Congratulations! Now the fun begins. Take a look at the shaft after you replace the CV boot and if it looks worn, replace it while you already have everything apart. No use doing it twice.

Came with a couple tools-two I can't identify..
What's this?
And this?
Here's the MIG fighter clock. It works if you wind it
Here's the torn passenger side inner CV boot. Looks like a lot of CV blood has run out already

*****in ride dude! looks just like mine, but my engine bay is better looking I would recommend you fix the axle quickly, you don"t want to have that problem.Did you just try tightening your valve covers to fix the leak. I had a small leak on mine and found that they were loose . Don"t over tighten, use 1/4 ratchet with socket . One more thing I would purchase a lead hammer and the 911 tool if you have knock offs. Dead blow hammers don"t work.If you have a harbor freight near you, they sell safety wire and the pliers cheap.

Came with a dead blow hammer in the trunk- I'm buying a lead hammer next
The little leak is from the grommet the PCV vent hose goes to (also the filler for oil). Covers seem to be tight
Any tips or hints on how to fix the CV boot?
I see online videos doing 2 things- spreading it with a funnel and installing on the unit intact, or using a hammer and knocking the joint off the center shaft. I just don't want to break anything!
I assume the CV shafts pop off the diff with a pry bar like most other cars?
Thanks!

I recommend joining the Superformance Owner's group SCOF. You''ll get to speak with all the experts who have owned these cars for years and built a technical library that rivals anything you've ever seen before.

One tool is for installing clamps like for the rubber boot. The other tool might be for a sissors jack or to raise and lower a shade awning on the back of your house deck....

Hahaha, thanks Blas!
I figured out the clamp tool, but that crank thing.. no idea. There's a scissor jack tied down in the trunk, so it might be for that, though the tip is tiny.
I also had an awesome conversation with Randy over at Cobra Valley this morning- I know what to do to get started, and have a pretty good suspension upgrade path set for the future. Just have to save some money, car cleaned me out
It's not often a conversation is so good I have to take notes. I know I'll forget the specifics in a day or two if they're not written down somewhere..

Jack tool look right-on to me.... also looks vintage.
Suggest some compact wheel chocks in the trunk too.
Scissors jacks are dangerous as hell. I'll bet there is just a flat plate on the top of it to sit against the chassis.

Randy has save my rear a couple of times since owning my car (just 2 years). SCOF is the ticket, and Cobra Valley has pretty much everything you need for your car. Have fun, and drive it! Don't sit and look at it.

what"s wrong with that I love just sitting in mine It has been raining and I already polished it. It only talks when I ask it too.Just be careful because your mind will start to wonder and that has a direct effect, on your pocket book.

I had no idea Randy ran SCOF
I spent hours digging through the tech database today- it's... awesome.
A friend of mine is a very accomplished mechanic, I was going to call him and pick his brain. Now.. we'll probably just chat about life and the kids
I wish Randy lived closer- it was the first time chatting with him, and it already felt like talking to an old friend. I'd like to buy him lunch!
The kids already love the car, and I haven't even had it ready to drive yet
I also found an old dyno sheet from 2008
I think it needs much stickier rubber to feel fast now

I'm most likely going to pick up a SPF cobra soon. The price is right (low 40s), although it has higher mileage (30K range).
There's some road chipping in the front, and it could use a thorough wash and polish, but seems mechanically sound.
The paint being what it is means I can only make it better, and I won't scream at the kids if they touch it
My FFR was in a beautiful candy apple red, which would swirl if you so much as looked at it sideways. The ladies loved it though
Are there any points I should check out before purchase or during the final test drive? I'm more familiar with the FFR chassis.
Upon just sitting in it, the car is much more solid feeling than the FFR. The doors feel solid by comparison. It checks all the boxes my FFR did not (427 small block, IRS, real knockoffs, no power steering mess to deal with).
Any tips or advice would be welcome
PS- the car only has lap belts, so first order of business would be a 4 or 5 point harness setup
Thanks!

Definitely Join SCOF
A few very worthwhile mods:
Craig’s gas pedal fix
Coolant hose reroute
Motor mounts
You really need to pull the Half shaft to do the boot on the cv, I’ve done the inner, the little try yoke just knocks off...pretty straightforward a good solid mornings worth of work.
As for tight valve covers I’ve had luck with steel cored cork glue on both sides with permeated gasket sealer, it’s kind of permanent but with a hydro motor there’s not much need to pop the covers very often...
And replace he seeds cable, not that hard and only like $25 from Napa...
Cheers

I checked for the SB100 decal
The title is as a SPCNS too.
I'll look into those mods, I have to check that they aren't done already. Finding the RT rear shock towers installed was a nice surprise
I'm going to try the Randy easy CV boot fix first too. But I ordered all the parts to have on hand anyways.
Do you happen to know the speedo cable part number from NAPA?
Randy told me to de-kink it first, then try graphite lubing the center rod-thing. I went to O'Reilly today to get the lube he told me about- they didn't have it I ordered something similar from amazon

Speedo cable
NAPA 615-1644
Exact fit
I’ve tried all the recommended fixes which made it better, for a while...the complete new cable makes it perfect.
