Just saw the movie, very good, really showed how awful Ford upper brass was and how they didn't think much for Ken Miles...

It’s true that Beebe butted heads with Miles after Daytona and Sebring ‘66 because he felt he was pushing the car too hard, but by all accounts that was the extent of it and Beebe was not the villain he’s portrayed as. In fact here’s an article that suggests the opposite: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.inq...outputType=amp
It is true that Henry Ford II was very unhappy with the ‘64 and ‘65 results, but Shelby American wasn’t involved in the 1964 campaign with the GT40 and in fact was brought in afterwards (with not enough time for proper development work for the 1965 Le Mans) to try and right the ship. Shelby did face pushback throughout from Ford, who also had cars campaigned by FAV and Holman-Moody among others. But I’m really not complaining; you can only make a script so complex before you start to lose audience interest and this isn’t a documentary.

While at SAAC 44 this summer, I met the owner of this car. Although his car wasn't used for any of the filming, he told me his car was used for all of the sound effects for the GT40.

Nice pics! Top shot is a MkIV, bottom is a different car (MkII).
Jim Glickenhaus—who has become well-known for his eponymous, exotic street and race cars—owns the yellow MkIV that raced at Le Mans ‘67. I got a chance to talk to him at Monterey a few years ago and he showed me the dent in the top of the doorsill, made when Bruce McLaren lost the rear bonnet during the race and smashed his helmet into the sill in frustration. Glickenhaus also owns at least two Ferrari P cars of the 3/4-4 variant, among a lot else. He keeps all of the cars road-registered in New York and has been known to drive them in Manhattan traffic. I wonder if the film producers approached him about using any of his Ferraris, although with Fran Hall building the replicas they didn’t really need to, I guess.

Thanks for the heads up. The bottom car, #3 on the side, is the car I was referring to. I deleted the Mk IV shot and added another of the Mk II.

Both cars are Superformance MK IIs. The #3 car is owned by Ted Baird and was used for the MK II sound effects in the film.

The movie reviewer on morning TV here in Australia - a self-confessed 'non-fan' of car movies - gave Ford v Ferrari a 5 star rating this morning.
Looking forward to seeing it this week
Cheers,
Glen

Overall, I enjoyed the movie with all of its Hollywood interpretations and imperfections, but I thought they really blew it in the final scenes with Miles going out in the J car. With all they did to portray cars as accurate and period correct, they really cut corners on the J car, which was nothing more than a GT40 with a few glued on pieces to make it look marginally different. I doubt even non-car folks were fooled by that. Oh well.

amazing movie with two unexpected issues:
1. it’s a Ken Miles movie
2. Enzo Ferrari won, because he appreciated Miles efforts while all the Ford guys didn’t
Ford races for selling cars, Ferrari is selling cars for racing...

Four of us saw it last night. Two are 66 years old, two are on the other side of 70 years of age. 3 out of 4 of us are 'car people', the 4th person considers any car as just a means of transportation.
All 4 of us thoroughly enjoyed the movie.

After a great BBQ at a member's house in the afternoon, a final tally of 15 Cobras showed up at the last remaining drive in theater, in AZ, and had an excellent time with the movie. The audio is transmitted via FR and many people brought radios so the sounds came through pretty well. We did really have to tough it out though: The temperature dove down to almost 70°.

Why would you suggest RCR is to blame? That's a ridiculous thing to say. If you want to speculate on who's to blame, start with the producer and the studio, they likely didn't want to pony up for one last accurate replica. No one replicates the J car, so it would have been a one-off custom build for about 10 seconds of film. I understand the business decision, but it was disappointing they didn't take it across the finish line.

I don't think the scene was meant to be about the "J" Car. Like was said, for 10 seconds of screen time.... Maybe they tried to just illustrate a "different car" in some way from the cars seen earlier in the movie to the uneducated viewer.
To me that scene really put closure to the movie and immortalized Ken Miles.

I just came back from the theater and wanted to get my thoughts down before brain fade set in, OPP (Old People Problem )
While there are more than enough factual inconsistencies for a authenticity critic to raise cain, that's probably the case with most real life adventures that are put to the big screen. I think when you just sit back and enjoy the movie without putting on the minutia critics hat you're in for an extraordinarily good experience.
Christian Bale does a stunningly good Ken Miles. Matt Damon, who I initially had doubts about as Shelby, also did an excellent job. The one thing I think he missed out on was the playful impish quality Shelby used as his snake charming oil when he was selling some idea.
I give the movie Five Stars, the story and the telling of it are just that good. Forget the minutia and you will appreciate and enjoy one of the all time great American stories. And to BLAS point above about Ken Miles, it is and he genuinely deserves the recognition.

I was a little bummed by that too, given the great pains they went to replicate other cars throughout. Perhaps the budget was blown by then. Shame as the Cobra Experience has the perfect car for the scene:

They should have called the movie The Ken Miles story. It was more about 10 miles and his relationship with Carol Shelby and it was about the actual conflict between Ford and Ferrari. And it showed absolutely none of the relationship between Carroll Shelby and Enzo Ferrari.
