Need valuation help on used BDR
Seeking feedback on value, please
BDR - built in 2017
1 owner
1k miles
CA located, CA registered, SB-100
Notable options:
Coyote 5.0 with stack injection
T56 6-speed
3.73 limited slip
Power steering
Wilwood brakes
Oil cooler
Ceramic headers and side pipes
Aluminum radiator and fuel tank
Blackout package
Couple other odds and ends.
What is a good purchase price for this?
Thank you

Good question.
There was a recent post from a guy that wanted to add 300 HP to his current set up. He suggested a Coyote upgrade and was surprised that his suggestion wasn't enthusiastically received.
Face it, most Cobra owners are getting older (myself included); I'd guess the average age of owners on this forum is late 60's - just a guess. Most love big block FE's in their Cobra (not me) and there's no changing their minds.
But the future of this hobby/sport/asset class is in the tastes of younger generations, who, in my opinion, will love a Coyote in the timeless Cobra design.
I'd say that a "regular" BDR valuation should be somewhere between $45-$65k depending on age/wear/build quality, options.
I think that used Coyote's with transmissions can be bought from $5-$10k, new from $20-$22k(?). I don't think installation cost of engine should get added in to the purchase price valuation. I don't think that you get a premium for the Coyote...one could argue that given the lack of current demand, but could get a discount but I don't think that's fair/realistic/reasonable. I think that that equation changes if you plan to own it for a long time. If you plan to own for less than 5 years, resale could be a problem if you don't get a very good purchase price.
I think it fair to add that value to the value of the build of a "regular" car minus the drive train. So if the BDR had an all aluminum 427 that costs $25k vs a used 300 hp 289 that costs $10k, you have to do the math.

See my other response to you. I don't think you can bring cars 2 years old or newer into CA. Look into it, I recall reading about it a few years ago.

There are some rules designed to prevent people from buying a car out of state, registering it and then trying to bring it into CA to avoid the sales tax and first couple of years of high registration fees. I don't know if that applies to vehicles registered in the SB100 realm (which are technically described as a 1965 vehicle). Check with CA DMV.
There are lots of downsides to this vehicle and it would be horrible to buy it and find out you can't own it in CA. There are probably better choices without the hassle.

you might check on cobra country to see if there are any similar cars.
What was stated earlier is correct: Cobras sell better and at higher prices with period correct power trains. If it suits your needs great, but don't pay a premium for it - remember you'll have to sell it some day.

Using Vintage Motorsports (sorry Jay) online quoting chart that car NEW would be in the $85-100k range. Depending on paint and interior bling.
IMO the Coyote with 8 stack is a pretty sweet setup (once it's setup).
Having that car already with SB100 done, having the street manners of the Coyote and 8 stack is a extremely rare package. No telling when/if you'd find another one in that same configuration.

The rolling chassis with options came out to about $60k
Speed Fanatix did the engine/trans. Not sure what this would cost. $25k?
Figuring the entire build around $85k...?
SB – 100 on a brand new car for the first owner is not too difficult. In this case, the car already has it, so no road blocks there.
From what I understand, and speaking to BDR, the challenge is when you buy a used one from out of state, getting the SB-100 is difficult especially if missing any original sale and installation documents/receipts.

It sounds like you have all the info you need to make your decision.
Although if you need more input it may help to reveal the asking price and a few photos.
Heck the car could look like this one and they'd be paying you....

Btw, a coyote in a cobra would be fantastic imo. I don’t know about the 8 stack but carbureted engines will never behave as well as fuel injected engines and factory ford efi can’t be beat for drivability, reliability, tuneability and running on today’s gas in a 10+ compression engine.

Except for what this used one should go for.
What dictates used Cobra pricing? Other than which one of the “big 3” its from, options, and engine...
Does the year the car was built/finished make a difference? Any specific color “worth more” than others?
Ill get some pics soon, he doesnt have a for sale ad, kinda like an “off market” deal haha. Has the diamond stitched interior and carbon fiber dash

As a new build? Or as a 2 year old unit being described?

BTW, Is ebay a bad platform? Or are people just not buying Cobras?
Looking at completed listings and seem like none of the Cobras sell, weather were talking a $25k model, or a higher end $80k model...most auctions end without a winner

In general, eBay is not a good platform for low volume or high priced cars. People that are looking on eBay simply don't have the knowledge or disposable income to buy a high end or specialty vehicle. Both Cobras and Ford GTs don't do well, ie, rarely sell - and I tried (and am trying) to sell both. The kinds of questions I got on the Cobra were ridiculous that I stopped and the Ford GT got no traffic even close to reserve.
On the other hand we sold Time-Life book series from the 70's and 80's by the ton.

Define "good deal"? The price? The quality/value ratio of the car? The car's specifications meeting your wants/needs?
Too often price alone is considered the benchmark for a "good deal" when the total package and condition/quality should be the yardstick. A Cobra for $19,995.00 that is certainly not expensive comparably but is a POS, is that a "good deal"?
Perhaps a car priced $5000 more than one you have seen is actually a "better deal" as it contains well more than $5000 worth of parts, quality, condition and value.
