Wow! I'm Jealous, you went to a BBQ at Big Bobs house. Oh and Phil Remington was there too
Great stories about Bob, thanks.
My Dad was a tail gunner on B-24s/B17s, shot down over Italy, made it home.
I was with the First Cav, proud of that. Not quite sure I'm completely home yet.

To the trolls, you not only chased Bob away, but you cut off this clubs access to Phil Remington, through Bob. So much information lost.
All Bob was posting was about a BBQ in his backyard, like any of us might posts about a BBQ with friends, and you a-hole trolls, accused him of boasting/bragging that he had one of Shelbys originals over to his house.
Thank you 427SSSS, for bringing up the "Trolls" My story isn't maybe as neat as the Phil story. But years ago, I was 9yo, at Pacific Raceway's when a "Alan Green" Cheetah lost it's door, coming out turn 9. and landed in the pits, I ran to get it, and wouldn't hand it back to anyone but the (Driver) who turned out to be (Allen Grant). Fast forward some 30+years, and I'm at the Vintage Races (Pacific Raceways) and parked next to me, (A bigger motorhome then mine ) is all be damned Allen Grant. I asked him if he remembered that story, and he said, you're that kid !!! Now fast forward to today, Allen & I are close friends (So Trolls if I'm bragging TOO BAD,) and we see each other quite often, he still has a house in the PNW, To me he's #1-my good friend, 2-I guess some kind of Cobra Icon . There is more to the story, about me meeting my 2nd wife, at Allen pits that day, and us marrying some 25+years later Thank you for letting me share, Cheers Tom

awsome!

I really want, an will respond to all your positive posts here, just busy, busy, busier than a one legged man at an ass kicking contest.

Body to painter yesterday, black with pearl ghost stripes. checking out new metal building to double shop size. Had 20 x 30 ft cc pad placed last month. W/C Cobra goes in for engine/auto trans, wiring harness, etc. Tues.

I will work on W/C stuff, while mikes automotive installs 289 with auto trans, EFI, hate to, but easier for W/C vet; to W/C Cobra (BTW, I will make this work, even if I have to cut body down the middle and add 2' to 3" to widen body, its tight fitting chair into Cobra, I will probable cut 6" out of cowl, and move adjustable steering wheel forward, Whindshield stays in place, saw one in Alameda, he did it to widen stance for racing, so it can be done, and doesn't look too, too bad. And will do regular stuff on rest of Cobra, cant believe it, in this one horse town of 27000 pop, found mechanic with Cobra on his sign five years ago, cool dude, perfect Cobra guy. While I'm working on ramp, 80 oaks tree trimed, just those that improve view, last six days. bought 19.50 acres 40 miles from front door, with view of Lake san Antonio, wife bought me 20' toy hauler, dual purpose, park on property 90% of time to hang, hunt, etc.

Moved wood fences, converted some to wrought iron to have view from back yard/pool, 4 miles across valley. checking on moving metal shop building, 20' x 30' shop forward, for better 270 degree view from back yard and pool; added two sheds to each side of wife's garage, one 7' wide, other 12 foot wide for storage. Gonna cut/shorten mini cooper I went to Sacramento month ago to pick up, 13 hr round trip, should have stayed overnight, dumb. And then cut/shorten to create Rothchild type mini Cobra, front tires, wider, 10" rims, back wheels, maybe 16" rims. and in my spare time I love to cook, have not done a dish in 37 years, I just cook.

Other than that, cooking relaxes me, I love vodka/7-ups, and been smoking since 1967 Vietnam, relaxes me, and helps with creatively, used to smoke on way to work in MGA every morning to work, so that's who they knew me as. Carried a B average in college stoned out of my mind.

first wife, I screwed up, not physical injured in Vietnam, but my mind, lets not talk about that, my fault after 7 years we went our separate ways, friendly, gave her house. . Second wife, after being single 7 years, blond, blue eyed, 17-1/2 inch waist, looked like Barbie doll,

Isn't life absolutely great?!!? Football all day today, (fanatic, go Raiders)relax, kick back, tomorrow is another day to do stuff.

BTW, F. U. C. K. OFF ALL YOU TROLLS!!!

Tom, great story! We (slightly) older Cobra enthusiasts are fortunate in that it wasn’t that long ago that, if you hung around the paddock at a vintage event or two, you could meet (and possibly befriend) someone who either worked at Shelby American in the heyday or was involved with a privateer Cobra effort. Sadly we seem to be at a tipping point right now with drivers and crew members from that era, where they’re starting to pass away. I’ve been very lucky the last 20 years to have attended enough vintage events to have met many of the folks I idolized growing up (those that survived what was often a lethal time to be racing, that is). I wonder how many people will be brought into the “club” from watching the Ford vs. Ferrari movie that hits theaters this week; I wish those folks had the opportunities I’ve had to meet the people portrayed in the film in the flesh.

Hauss,

If you really do not know what you posted, go to this thread. Page 2 post #35.

Hoist cable shreaded!

You will see that I quoted you and replied in post #37 that I didn't understand the reason for your post.

If it was humor, you should have used an emoticon to indicate so. Even then, it is risky, if you do not know the person and how they will react.

I've been looking at the title and read a few of the responses. Some of the posters are exactly why I don't check in around here very often. Besides all that, I sold the Contemporary. It always bugged me when someone would ask a serious question, the OP would get 2-3 serious answers in the first few replies then every keyboard coward/troll would chime in to why the replies were all wrong. Next it would reduce itself to how the guys who took time to reply were wrong about everything then it would morph into some other ridiculous soap box speech on some totally different subject. As somebody else said, if you don't have something constructive to say, why say it?

I posted similar thread on Factory Five Forum, it won't open now, or I would, cut/copy.

AL_C posted, suggesting front wheel drive Cobra, wheelchair guy enters from rear trunk, awesome idea, I'm asking Opie to stop 289 install, look for front wheel drive set up, PLEASE, open to all suggestions ideas for front wheel drive set ups.

Sure, not a Cobra drive train, but were I confined to w/c, (heaven forbid) I'd be more that pleased to be driving cobra "look alike", rather than a boring old van.

AL_C, AWSOME IDEA,!, thanks you.

BTW, No trolls on that other site on my thread.

FF5 forum finally opened. so here is cut/paste AL_Cs post.

A thought from the peanut gallery: interesting idea to have the Vet roll into the car from the rear. In this case, you want the entire rear of the car as low as possible. What about going to a front drive orientation? There are lots of high performance options for front drive cars, and given the weight of the chassis, you don't even need that much power. Front drive allows you to redesign the rear end without any interference from differentials or axles. You could have an IRS off a standard front drive car that leaves much of the trunk flat - and low. Just my 2 cents.

I'm buying two bags of peanuts!!

AL_C. I'd like two bags of peanuts!

You know, your idea of front wheel drive is intreging.

I think, we're I confined to a wheelchair, (heaven forbid) id be more than happy to be driving a Cobra look a like, rather than a boring van.

Sure, not Cobra drive train, but equal power/tourq could be achieved. The tunnel would be negelable, roll in back, simplified ramp, awsome!

Wow, awsome, where the he'll were you when I first started this project?

Opie has not installed 289 engine trans yet.

I like your idea so much, I'm asking Opie to find front wheel drive set up.

Open to any and all suggestions for front wheel drive/engine, PLEASE!I

THANK YOU AL_C when this comes to fruition, you have my hat off to you for offering an absolutely fantastic suggestion

I have been on this forum for a little over a year and found it to be the go to place when I need to find out something technical about my car. Whether it's been a repair, an upgrade, a technical question etc... and that suits me just fine. It has been extremely helpful and packed with knowledgeable people.

Took Bennett 289 body/chassis to Opie, asked that he help fit front wheel drive engine/transaxle into car. (Gave him all the information/suggestions you awesome guys provided) WTF, one of these two nutty ideas will work, this improves chances by XX%

After he checks out what will work, I'll bring body/chassis back home, make W/C modifications, and then ask Opie to finish car.
