Rotor phase

I am still trying to wrap my head around this one. If I am using a timing light to set my timing why should the phasing matter? would not it already be phased properly ? Remember I am rotating the dizzy while setting the timing using the light.What is it that I just do not understand?

Turning a distributor with normal mechanical advance, (with or without vacuum advance) is not normally a concern for rotor phasing.

BUT it is a VERY BIG concern if the distributor has been locked out, and you are using external electronic timing.

Probably the most reassuring sentence on page 14 is MSD magnetic pickup distributors are set at the factory and should not require adjusting. Come to think of it, I don't think I've actually seen an out-of-phase MSD magnetic pickup distributor. Read about them from time to time, but never actually seen one.

Thank you, at least now I understand,that msd manual was very helpful.I kind of figured in my case rotor phasing was much about nothing but was not sure thanks again for the help.
