Rocket Sunburst wheels
As I make progress on my scratch build independent rear suspension, I am considering using the Rocket Sunburst wheels on the irs setup.
As you may have seen in some of my previous posts I already have a set of original Sunburst wheels on my car.
Why the Rocket Sunburst wheels? Well, my irs setup employs a Corvette C3 diff and GM hubs in custom Cobra uprights so I'm on a 5 x 4.75 inch wheel bolt circle.
I know a couple of you have used Rocket Sunburst wheels on your cars, Alfa02 (Tom) and Davereeves.
I would like to know if either of you have good pics of the inside hub mounting surface/center bore and the outside center mounting bore (where Rocket mounts their faux knockoff) of the Rocket Sunburst wheel.
I am try to determine what steps I will have to take (if it can be done) to adapt the Rocket Sunburst wheels to a Trigo knockoff hub.
Hope you two or maybe others can help with pics.
I'm also going to contact Rocket to see if they can provide pics as all their ad pics only show the front of the wheel with a center cap mounteed.
Thanks
Cheers
Greg

Thanks Tom. I'm in no rush. You wouldn't want to hire me at the pace I work at.
Just thought you might have had some pics from a couple of years ago. Don't want you to go to a lot of trouble jacking the car up and taking off a wheel.
I've sent an e-mail to Rocket Wheels and hopefully they'll come through with some info.
And maybe others on the forum maybe able to help also.
Cheers
Greg

No Problem Greg, I spoke with my buddy, he said come down anytime, so I'm thinking end of this week, I haven't even seen it since before the virus thing. No issue's with pulling a wheel off, the Cobra lives in a nicer place then I do, (Heating / AC / Dehumidifer/ etc. etc. ) Cheers Tom.

Starting a new build next month. Very interested in seeing pictures of the Rocket sunburst wheels as is. And with adapters your making. The Rocket sunburst wheels are top of my list and not bad price wise. Cool project you have going I've read the other threads.

Try to load aPicture.
FFR428, If you send me a PM with your Email I can send you pics of my Sunbrust's on my BRG 427 Street Car. I for some reason or another can't post pics here, and have a friend do it for me. Sorry Greg, we couldn't make the Sunbrust work on your IRS, BUT you do have a set of the REAL ones Cheers Tom. P.S. I'll try one time fingers crossed.

I have concluded that the best course of action for me to fit the original Sunburst wheels onto the GM (5 x 4.75" bolt circle) hubs I have on my scratch build IRS, is to drill the GM hubs out to a Ford 5 x 4.5" bolt circle so I can use my existing Trigo hubs and original Sunburst wheels.
I have ordered Rotten Leonard's drill jig and will hand it off to my machinist friend to do the work right.
Keep you posted.
Cheers
Greg

Please Greg, do keep us posted on your build. I've had a lot of People ask about those wheel's, some I thought that were in the "Know" about Cobras. "Like beautiful wheels" (Too Bad) you don't have "Real" Cobra wheel's I would say Oh on the Contrary, these were designed by the legendary Peter Brock just for the 427 Street Car. I believe it's only fitting to have (Pretend Sunbrusts) on my (Pretend Cobra) If you need anything else just ask. Cheers Greg, TommyRot

Are sunbursts 6 pin like all other non-wire original wheels?

Indeed Glen, I couldn't agree more In fact this is how my car came about, in 67 @ the tender young age of 12, I was at Pacific Raceways and sitting in the pits was a 65 BRG 427 Street Car. I spent the better part of that day, just walking around it, eyeing it from every angle, that Cobra just looked so RIGHT ! If I had a camera, I would have used up MANY rolls of film (Remember Film ) One day I told myself, you will have one, Well many, many years later, here we are !!!! Thank you Glen, for the pictures, Cheers My friend, TommyRot.

Hi krausewich. The original 1965/1966 Cobra Sunburst wheels were 6 pin , true knock-off wheels.
I'll try to take some more detailed pics of the original Sunburst wheels tomorrow. I have 4 on my car and 2 slightly damaged wheels on display.
One of the display wheels was autographed by Carroll Shelby and Peter Brock. Ask me how heavy that wheel got as I lugged it around Laguna Seca to get those autographs years ago. LOL
Cheers

Hi ALFA,
What size tires did you end up running on the Rockets ?
I'm guessing 7" wheels up front, 8"s rear ?
Thank you,
Mike

Hi Mike, good question. Rocket makes the "Sunbrust" in 15x7" and 15x8" . I went with 15x8 all around, but the rears have 3/4" offset to the outside to give it a more "Dished Look" Also did the knock-offs with straight angle in front & dished in back, again to add a deeper look. Ended up with MT St's for tires (Lots of clean looking Sidewall) 235-60-15 front, 275-60-15 rears, to give a (touch) of nose down stance. The fit & finish of Rocket wheels are second to none. Hope this helps Mike, Cheers TommyRot.
