For a street registered car, the safest side is the passenger side, so one should mount the battery on the passenger side, whether front or rear. Something to think about.

Searched here on CC and found this interesting comment for a 'squeezy' battery fitment in an ERA 427....

For me, passenger side, trunk....the safest location - and definitely very accessible

Just for history's sake, this is the battery tray on CSX2345. It's not to say the battery is mounted there but the tray is still in it's original location. Also note the hold downs are there and what appears to be part of one cable.
Thank you Ross!
Larry

Here's a picture of CSX2345 from SAAC 31 at VIR.
It is hard to tell, but it looks like there might be a battery there in this picture.

Putting the battery on the passenger side can equal out some of the driver's weight. Just my 2¢ worth. Also, the battery cable would be shorter as the starter is on the passenger side.

Thanks. That galvanised me into looking more closely through my stock of pictures of CSX2345, and found this one....
Sure looks like a battery in there.
Cheers,
Glen

Glen,
That's where they are supposed to go. My battery box is there. It s a pain to get it in and out, and in racing I have to have mine in a box like Morris, so being that I do not have a passenger in my car when racing I put the box on the passenger side floor under the dash. You definitely do not want it there, no foot room for the passenger.
Jim

Just so you guys know.....the drivers weight goes on the LF, LR & RR
None of the drivers weight goes on the RF......so putting a battery on the passenger side ...ias long as you position the battery in the passenger side of the vehicle it will help balance the vehicle.

And just so you guys know, we are talking about LH drive AND RH drive cars here, since the cars are all over the world.
So the theory is the battery should be placed on the passenger side, since any amount of weight that can be positioned to oppose the drivers weight will help to achieve neutral balance. It is also a safer option, since the battery is less likely to be involved in a vehicle accident if mounted away from the road centre line.

I can tell you exactly where my weight distribution in my ERA goes down to the last pound. When I get behind the wheel, ONE pound goes to the passenger side front wheel, 57 goes to the driver front wheel, 93 goes to the driver's rear wheel, and 47 goes to the passenger's rear tire. And I'm as sure of this as I am the Baltimore Catechism.

I have the latest photo of CSX2345 with a battery in place. Can anyone help me post the photo without the email info. Steve (Volk) sent me the picture this morning though my Email, but not computer savvy enough to just send the pictures. Help? Cheers TommyRot.

Save the photo to your desktop (or "downloads" directory on your tablet/phone) then post it up here the normal way,

Thanks ALF and Alfa02 (Tom)
I'll add them to my collection...
Certainly confirms the battery location for an FIA car.
Cheers!
