Ordered Unique and need Car Hauler advice
Ordered a Unique Deluxe Pallet a couple months ago. I'm having them do the paint and install stroked 390/445 by Southern Automotive with TKX. Need some guidance on a enclosed car hauler. What to avoid, what to get, what size, etc.

Great purchase! The Unique that is. Not that there's anything wrong with Suburbans, lol! Keep us posted with pics and updates.I seriously considered ordering a "Super FE" 390/445 stroker from Southern Automotive quite a few years ago and found Bill and Susan Parham to be very nice folks; as I did with the Weaver family at Unique.

Thanks Buzz, I am excited about this cobra, the Weavers have been great to work with along with Susan Parham. Haven't gotten pictures of the build yet when I do I will share them.

If wanting to go enclosed, I highly suggest a 20 footer. Install "E" track, and get the appropriate tie downs for same. As far as brands go, that would depend on your budget. Trailex, Featherlite, ATC, Haulmark are the top rated. You will want a car trailer, and not a cargo trailer, as the specs of each build is different. See the attached url:

As Bill S. said a 20ft one is just right for a Cobra. 3' on each end makes loading & unloading a pleasure. I brought 2018 20' Interstate super coach (Workmanship is top notch), with driver door, 4' side door, rubber floors, solar panels, and E-track, steel frame with Alum sides, 4100lbs empty, 6500-7000 loaded, make sure you get Torsen-bar axles (3500-5200lbs per axle) with replaceable hubs, the ride & safety are well worth the extra cost. a 16 Suburban should pull it nicely.

Contact Lawrimore Trailers in Falkville, Al. They can custom build anything you want and they have reasonable prices.
They built a "one off " for his neighbor who has a Unique. The trailer is short in height and has the exit door placed for getting out of the car.
They are located 100yds off I-65 and you can be at Unique in an hour. Easy Peasy.

Please share how the car trailer is different from a regular trailer. I never heard this before and so I must have bought a regular one.

Tom,
Cargo trailers are built differently than a car trailer, differently how starts in the main frame, as a enclosed trailer built for cars will have more framing members and braces than an enclosed trailer built for cargo. Additionally, in quite a few cases, a cargo trailer will have a flat floor, where a car trailer will have a slight dovetail towards the rear opening. Configuration of the walls and ceiling are the same for both in most cases. A trip to the Haulmark and Featherlite manufacturing facilities back in the early 2K's and a tour of both taught me those tidbits. I'm certain there were more, but that are the ones I can remember.

The other HUGE Difference is rear door, a car trailer rear door is the ramp, cargo trailer has two barn doors NO RAMPS. Tom you better check and quick!!! Cheers Tom.

I think I managed to get all or most of that when I ordered my trailer. I am pretty happy with it. It has steel framing in the walls and ceiling too. I could have ordered the loop tie downs but the standard ones seem to work fairly well as long as you have the right tie downs.
Thanks guys!
Tom

First off, congrats on the Cobra, Unique does an awesome build! Check out The Serpent Express trailers, specifically designed for Cobras, very popular here in Texas!

Congrats!
I have an 18' Pace car hauler, with the slight beaver-tail, as Bill describes. The torsion axles make for a lower center of gravity, which helps with towing/handling. It tows great. The beaver-tail helps with the ramp angle for loading/unloading! I find that 18' is plenty for my Unique 289. The 20-footers are nice for the extra room - though not required. A friend hauled his Unique 427 in a 16' V-nose, and it worked just fine.
Are you planning to be at the Homecoming in May? Hope to see you there! You will have a blast.

Thanks for all the great information really very impressive! It's a big help, know more now what to look for and what to avoid, exactly what I needed.
PDUB, don't think I will make it this year but when car is finished will be their for sure.
By the way the Peter Brock trailer is in a class all by itself, a real work of art.

I have a 16ft enclosed cargo, lots of room, if you are hauling anything else like a newer mustang inches on each end, depends on your budget

Well it's been longer then I anticipated but going to pick up my cobra soon. I'm ordering a trailer now and need recommendations on one particular area. On a 20ft trailer how long should I the E track be? The whole 20 feet or can I go shorter?
