Lead hammers
Is this how lead hammers "develop"? This one looks like it's due for replacement, yes?
It's home is an MG TC
Cheers!

I have been told that they can be recast. No idea where.

I have a very deluxe hammer with a copper head that came with one of my old cars and stayed with me when I sold it.

We sell 6# hammers from American Hammer and they have a aluminum handle and grip. American Hammer will recast a new head on your hammer for $45.00 with return shipping paid.

I've got one in about the same shape and then a newer one as well.
Recasting is a great plan, lead isn't getting cheaper and the handles don't really wear out.

Tell me, blow by blow, how does a puller substitute for a lead hammer ?

That would be a very easy sandcasting project but these days, the $45 sounds great.

The American hammer guy used to come here and had special pricing. I got one and was pretty sure any profit was eaten up in shipping. Plus he threw in a nice little brass hammer that I think was a decorative that I even used today.

I know back in the day, when lead got to beat up, owners would cut the lead off the handle, drill a handle size hole in a soup can side, then melt the old lead, plus some tire weights pour and voila, brand new hammer! Cheers, Dennis

That baby would pop the safety wire faster than I could cut it.

I use this 52 oz. dead blow hammer. It's about 18 years old and still doesn't need to be recast. If you miss the knock-off and hit the rim, it leaves a smudge.
