Default Fun Road Rallys in SoCal

CALIFORNIA DOUBLE RALLY WEEKEND,
THUNDER ROAD 2022, OCT. 15, National Tour Rally, and
EUREKA, OCT. 16, Divisional Course Rally.

THUNDER ROAD, October 15, 2022 is a navigational road rally. This event is not a race, but a test of precise driving skills and driver-navigator teamwork. The object of this event is to enjoy driving sweeping, beautiful, challenging back roads at legal speeds while following simple directions in order to pass a series of Checkpoints at just the right time.
We will be running the best roads in the San Gabriel and Tehachapi mountains, the southern Sierra Nevadas, the Antelope Valley and the vineyards, farms, orchards and hills of Kern County.

The Route Instructions for this event will use a simple, sequential format, meaning you get turn-by-turn directions, AND you get your target time at each Checkpoint. The rally is a little over 250 miles long and you will have 7 and a half hours of driving nirvana with many breaks for gas, food, and rest stops.
There is no need for advanced math, no riddles, compasses, maps or gimmicks, just glorious roads to drive with a focus on precision and accuracy. This is a team sport -- driver and navigator must work together to get it right. Only 2 people are allowed per car on SCCA National rallies.
There are no preset average speeds, just run at the posted speed limits (rally is timed at least 2 mph BELOW those limits and has pauses where needed). If you reach a timed Checkpoint early, you can pull over, out of traffic lanes, and either creep, or stop and wait for your target time to pass by the Checkpoint. This event has been designed to be extremely EV friendly. There are charging stations at the Start, at lunch, and at the morning and afternoon breaks.

To register for this event, please go to www.msreg.com/tr22. Start will be at the Hampton Inn, 5601 Outlets at Tejon Pkwy, Arvin, CA 93203. This is an SCCA National Tour Rally sponsored by the Into the Night Rally Team. Trophies will be awarded to the top teams in Classes E (Equipped), L (Limited equipment), S (Stock), G (GPS driven rally computers) and N (Novice – 3 or fewer previous rallies).
More Info can be found at Welcome to ITN Rallye Club Home Page. For any questions or more detailed information, contact Joe at carzero@aol.com or call or text 310 350 1360.

Eureka is an SCCA Divisional Course Rally written by Jeanne English. It is a companion rally to ITN's Thunder Road, a Monte Carlo style SCCA National Tour Rally written by Joe Akerman running on Saturday, October 15. Both rallies headquarter at the Hampton Inn in Arvin (Tejon Ranch), CA (see below for hotel info). Registration for Eureka opens at 8:00 am, route instructions are handed out at 8:30 am plus your car number in minutes. Official start time is 9:00 am plus your car number in minutes, but once you receive your route instructions you are free to leave.
From the start, Eureka will head east to Stallion Springs (west of Tehachapi). Besides some fun roads, the rally will visit the Tehachapi Loop and go through a covered bridge! The rally will be lightly trapped, with Jeanne expecting most cars to do most legs correctly. You will be able to run it using either the SCCA RRRs or SMSCC's General Instructions; there will be an addenda to help make that happen.
The rally will use the Richta GPS Competitor app for timing and scoring, with timing to the second. The maximum penalty for Eureka is 1 minute (60 seconds) per leg. Before you arrive at the start, please download the Richta Competitor app to your phone; it's a free download for Android and Apple devices. There is no need for additional timing equipment, your Official Time shows in the app!
Entry fee for Eureka is $50 for SCCA members, $60 for non-SCCA members. Plus, register by October 12 for a $10 discount!

This is an SCCA Divisional Course Rally sponsored by Santa Monica Sports Car Club and Cal Club SCCA. Trophies will be awarded to the top teams in Classes E (Equipped), L (Limited equipment), S (Stock), G (GPS driven rally computers) and N (Novice – 3 or fewer previous rallies).
