Snake bite protection
Is there some sort of blanket or pad that can be draped out over side pipes that won't melt or burn to keep my handicapped daughter from getting leg burns?

Yes, welding blanket is the way to go. I installed mine with snaps, but you wouldn't even have to do that. Just roll it up and stuff it between the seat and the door sill and it's like it's not even there. Even when the pipes are at their hottest, you can't feel even a little bit of warmth through the blanket. I only use it when I have a passenger that I think might not be able to clear the pipe when getting in or out.

As I said to friends snakebites usually happen only once. But special circumstances exist in this case.
The same thing about only once applies to banging your head on the Ford GT (or GT40) door.

These are the black welding blankets I recently purchased, they have saved at least two probable bite victims so far. I store them rolled up tucked behind the passenger seat so I can get them out easily when needed.

Also Mark IV thanks for the DOT/SAE info. I'm now legally licensed and on the road. It took me longer at the DMV than at the vehicle inspection site in Rochester. My insurance card didn't have the custom model designation and the new vin #. Whole process took a little over 6 weeks. Thanks again all for your help..

You are welcome. In the past year we have helped at least six people with the NY registration. We are happy to help save for the dealer that sells cars into NY, tells the customer to "call us" and neglects to let us know that they have dropped this responsibility on us.

I have these guards around my pipes and they only get to about 98 degrees. The header reaches 280 plus and the rest of the pipe hits around 220-240.
I can lay my hand or calf on the guard without a burn. Granted I just got the car and only had it out a couple of times, but each time I checked with a heat gun and it was always under 100 degrees.

How did you connect to the car? rod, snaps, etc.? What did you do about the notching the fabric at rear to go around the door sill?

I ordered mine when the car was built. If you do a google search on "heat shields for cobra replica", you will find a bunch of them. I put 600 miles on so far and I think the hottest it got was 105 degrees. I would be wary of bright stainless shields after sitting in the sun for a while. They would probably get pretty hot.

My exhaust system is ceramic coated inside and out from head to exit. Then the muffler-side pipes are covered by the SS perforated guards , which get hot to the touch but not as hot as the muffler side pipes. The heat in the SS guards is only temporary and dissipates quickly, but if you were to just try to get out as the car stops and touch them, it would be uncomfortable. But as I'm older and fat with bad joints nothing is sudden. I have been burned a long time ago while still aware of snake bite potential, I still got out of a replica in Texas and got a dandy burn. I'm interested in adding the blankets to my car, for the just in case moment. I was wondering how you went about anchoring the inside car end? You still have to be carful of walking up to car wi9th the engine running and the headers where they come through the body are also verry hot. Eager with sweat pants on it will ruin the pants leg if it touches for any length of time.
