Hoe did you attach the welding blanket?
About the welding blanket. How did you secure the inside edge of the welding blanket to the inside of the car? what did you do about the part where the door sill is curved? Did you have to reinforce the slot cut into the welding blanket?

Secure? You're kidding, right? Store it behind the seat. Passenger reaches back and just flop it over and get out. It's not a red carpet.
All the more reasons that you'll find most of your passengers that you give a fun ride to are passengers only once.

If you look back at my post #4, I said that I installed mine with snaps but you really don't have to secure it. Just stuff it either behind the seat or roll it up and stuff it between the seat and door sill. And, no, you don't need to reinforce the blanket because of the curvature of the door sill. You can see that it stays just fine in the photo in my post.
P.S. The only reason I secured mine is that I installed it during my build when I was done with everything and was just waiting for the engine. I had run out of things to do on the car and, for some reason, just couldn't leave it alone so I did a few "unnecessary" things...

Is that degrees Fahrenheit? If so that is one of the coolest running motors I’ve heard of. My headers at idle are in the 400 - 500 degree range. I have undercar exhaust but I’ve measured my mufflers at over 400 degrees after shutting off from a drive.
I have an old Corvette with chambered side exhaust and the GM aluminum guards. They fit fairly close to the pipes and get a little warm but they have a layer of fiberglass glued to the inside that’s about 1/8-3/16” thick for an insulator. I would be surprised if shields do much good without some sort of insulator or a large air space.

I have not purchased the welding blankets yet, I'm planning it to death first. I know it has to be convenient or I'll just not use it and that is when it happens. Planning on storing loosely folded , like an accordion, between the seat and door. I'm much slower now than I used to be, and pipes are usually cooled slightly by the time I'm getting close to getting my leg next to the side pipes. I remember when I got burned and all it took is a moment of forgetfulness, and then it happens. Ato the car is Attaching it to the car is a big deal as I'd forget and end leaving the blanket in some parking lot. I should have done this years ago. I mentioned to my wife and was told to leave it for a Christmas gift idea. Not having the blanket material in hand what about slits where the door way curves from horizontal to perpendicular. I anticipate a slot at the rear of the material so the blanket will lay out flat on the side pipe. Will I need to reinforce the material to keep the material from just tearing from that notch.?

Mike, look at the photo in post #4. Just cut the blanket in a gentle curve toward the back of the car like you see there. Mine is actually much wider than it needs to be because I installed them before the sidepipes were on and didn't want to cut it short. Your leg isn't going to hit the pipe that far back. I've thought about trimming it but never seem to bother because it works fine as is.
