"This forum requires that you wait 90 seconds between posts. Please try again in 89 seconds."
A second mouse click produced this posting after more than a minute, which I edited to add timing information. Prior to posting it produced the following message:
"Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 19388494 bytes) in F:\Inetpub\wwwroot\clubcobra\forums\network\functi ons_network.php on line 341"

That is the same error that I posted about in an earlier post and I have been getting it for some time now. Plus a couple of times when I tried to submit a post it just set there with the spinning circle until it timed out and told me I had taken to long to submit the post.

I use an IPhone 11 Max in the OKC metro area and occasionally have speed problems
I do get the error message after “submit reply” sometimes but it always posts
Older hardware or your location may be an issue
If I don’t edit this it went through fine
Edit: error message but here I am

Sunman,
It isn't location or older computers that cause this problem and others. For one thing the forum software is outdated and no longer supported. But it should still work. I administer another site and we have no problems but we have new software. Also I have a brand new computer and a couple of older ones running different OSs and browsers and all have this problem.

I have similar experiences to Ron, Sunman. My computer is relatively new (1 year old), and my browser software is even newer. These sorts of whoops did not occur five years ago. Something has gone bump in the dark in the website software. The question is what and how to fix it, assuming it is fixable.
Follow on thought ...
This is a screen that I get relatively frequently when attempting to log in, Brent. It might be helpful in your efforts to track down the gremlins.
— The website s/w will not upload the screen shot attachment — <=My words not the website s/w.
It turns out I can’t upload the actual screen image because the website s/w says the 28KB jpg file of the screenshot fails to upload.
A second attempt produces words on the upload screen that say:
Safari can't open the page "www.clubcobra.com/forums/newreply.php?
do=postreply&t=147291" because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection. This sometimes occurs when the server is busy. Wait for a few minutes, and then try again.
Hope these cookie crumbs help in diagnosing the whoops.

I’ve been here since 2001 and joined when I bought back for the third time my Classic Roadsters in 2009
It was “Club Classic Roadsters” then with all the stuff going on
Yes it has problems now but the only thing it does to me is not load the forum occasionally and the error message after I submit reply
Ignore the message and don’t double post was easy to figure out
I’m not having the problems that you are experiencing
Edit: 5 seconds than error message but here I am
I think you have a short between your chair and your keyboard 😬

Interesting ...
Your time on the site is almost as long as mine but your online experience is decidedly different than mine and so many others on the site. This has increasingly been sounding like older s/w in need of an update. In the end the whoopses may not turn out to not be repairable in the Version 3.8.0 vBulletin s/w ...

New software won't fix a corrupted database.

Complete agreement, Tony. I am hoping it is not a corruption issue and instead a s/w update issue. That said, it feels like a db corruption issue ...

I just did some research and the vBulletin 3.8.0 the forum is currently running on was released in 2009 and moved to "end of life" support sometime in late 2016.
The upgrade to vBulletin 6 is $179 USD and yearly hosting packages range from $180-360 per year. I wouldn't imagine we are cruising through too much bandwidth as a community, I would just prefer a slightly newer and reliable interface for us to interact.
Normally forums pay for these services through "contributors" who pay a yearly fee to the board (Club Cobra) for some special privileges as well helping pay the bills if you will.
I for one would happily begin contributing if we could upgrade while still migrating all of the valuable information in prior threads. So while the upgrade is surely possible, the Admin would need to address the integrity of the database to ensure any faults are corrected.

I would happily throw a little more money Brent's way, if that would fix the issues.
I believe (Jeff 1985 CCx), started a drive last year, to collect some dues, let's do one now Cheers TommyRot.

Suddenly, this morning (CA time), after a little downtime, the site is stunningly fast!
Thanks Brent.

p.s.
I spoke a bit too soon. The Post Quick Reply does not work yet, and single mouse clicks get messages back after 80 seconds as if multiple clicks had occurred.
There are still some rough edges that need to be deburred, including the "Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 19388490 bytes) in F:\Inetpub\wwwroot\clubcobra\forums\network\functi ons_network.php on line 341" message when posting ...

We've done that in the past to no avail. If this were a business, and not just a "when I get around to it hobby," you would ask your Head of IT "what is your plan to fix this problem, what will it cost, and when will you do it?" Until you at least get a straight forward and cogent response to that simple and basic question, blindly throwing money with the hope that magic fairies will catch the money and fix the problem is simply a fool's errand. If the true answer is "look guys, I don't have to time to fuc* with this stuff right now, maybe ever, but I'll put a little time in on it, occasionally, but that's it. If that doesn't suit you, then sorry but tough shi*" -- then he ought to just say that and a lot of us will politely STFU and accept it for what it is.

So, if I read the people here, that's doesn't want to add any money to help run this site.
(The cost of a tank of gas for our Cobras, sheeeeeez...)
You're getting exactly what you paid for. No, let's wait to see if Brent fixes it first, THEN just maybe, I might add to the coffers, oh wait now I don't need to, Brent fixed it without my benefit.
I would feel ashamed after all this club has done for me, and all this cub has to offer to feel like I stiffed Brent, for what a few measly bucks.
This is only my opinion, you may all tell me to go hell, it won't change how I feel, I'm a big boy I can take it Cheers Tom.

If Brent said "here's how much I need to fix the problem" I would happily send in a healthy contribution. But he doesn't even address the issue. He's totally silent on the issue. If he simply had an ancillary blog that had five second entries on what he was doing to fix software that is absolutely horrible in its performance, and is constantly breaking, that would go a long way in helping settle down the restless natives.

I will do that Patrickt, I'll call Bill S. since he has a direct link to Brent and see if we can get the ball rolling. Anybody else like add a few coins to help Brent to save our site ???? Here's your chance. Thank you patrickt for your input much appreciated, Cheers Tom.

But Tom, that's part of the problem. You shouldn't have to call Bill and ask him to call Brent to tell him the site is broken again. Every other site in the world has watchdog services that text the operator when there's a problem, but that's only worth a hoot if the operator is responsive and the problem can be fixed. Otherwise, the watchdog is just a pest, and eventually gets turned off because the operator has better things to do than screw with a website that has two broken legs and a malignant neoplasm in the database. And I doubt Brent wants to hear from Bill any more than Bill wants to bug him about it. If Brent didn't have other priorities much more important to him than this, whatever those might be, he would have been on this years ago. But you know that. What I find astounding is that we can have threads and posts like this and Brent just totally ignores them.
