First observation is that the cars with a CSX in front get a premium

Only one has an aluminum body @ $407k. Aluminum CSX continuations remain relatively rare and apparently the market values them. Next best thing to an original?

I wonder how much the CSX 3xxx vin on this car is valued vs the usual CSX 4000/6000. Not fundamentally a different car. Still a continuation. Although some call these original series labeled cars as “completion” cars. Probably a more expensive royalty to Shelby American for the privilege.

Remind me that when it is time to sell my cobra that I should take it to Barret Jackson, along with a case of bourbon and beer to pass around just before bidding starts....

Isn't that the group of cars that were built by McClusky, et al? As I recall Shelby American does not participate in those. It's purely "the foundation".

What strikes me is the Factory Five that sold for $85,800. Wow, that seems crazy.

Remember that the final prices shown include a 10% buyer's premium and an 8% sellers fee. So, the seller sees 83.6% of the final price. Thus, for the $407K car the seller would receive $340.4K, a discount of $66.6K. Not to mention additional selling costs like transport, insurance, travel (if attending), etc.

Also, consider that all BJ cars must be offered at no reserve. So, you have no guarantee of getting the price you might expect.

Note the CSX 7000 that sold for $110K, $92K to the seller. Doesn't compare particularly well to other CSX 7000 sales elsewhere. Seller probably expected more.

The prices shown include the 10% buyer's commission.

I always base yields on the hammer price. For a hammer price of 10,000:

Buyer pays 11000 (+10%, 1.1xHammer)

Seller gets 9200 (-8%, .92xHammer)

I can attest to the no reserve. I wanted reserve on my GT and they were doing it for the last time, and I traded no reserve for extremely good placement, still only got about 2/3 of their estimate.

I too would have thought CSX7010 would have gotten more. It's a pretty good deal, but the paint job might have turned people off - for 110K I could get it repainted and still be happy.

Kinda wish I had but (1) the wife wouldn't go anywhere with me and (2) I didn't have enough garage space to store it. A Cobra is still among the cars I would consider. I'm one-eyed but without an obnoxious B-pillar on the passenger side I could see just fine.

Not from an accident. My right eye is a "lazy eye". I only see from it if I "turn it on". So I have to turn my head quite a ways to the right to use my left eye to see out of the right hand rear view mirror. I have no depth perception which was quite a shock to the head instructor at the first Bondurant racing class I took... Driving on a race track is 100x easier than a street since everyone is predictable and doesn't speed up in the right lane when you're trying to pass and brake points are marked...

PS. I'm still unrestricted (no corrective lenses) on my drivers license even though I wear glasses all the time... My left eye is good enough.

All of this conspired to make the Ford GT a very difficult car to drive in city traffic.

I thought the black CSX 289FIA that sold for 100k was a good buy for the buyer, since the same 289FIA ERA's go for 70-85K. Premium $ for CSX over ERA, I guess ???

The highest car in the auction was a 1956 300SL Gullwing

The 300SL is my favorite car of all time.

The CSX7000 Series Continuation was a first generation, much different than the second generation that is available today which is more true to the original 1964 design. The other caveat is that the first generation was created during Carroll Shelby’s reign over SAI.

How do the first and second generation differ?

I actually don't mind the look of the first gen 7000s.

Although not 100% FIA accurate, the rear fenders are bit more pronounced and the whole car looks wider, lower and more aggressive. I believe they started with a 427 S/C and added 289 FIA features to it.

Here's a first gen 7000 driving around Monaco:

I wish they had the camera in the tunnel, oh what a sound! On a funny note, as a kid, I would watch the F1 races on TV. In the mid 70s, my Dad won a promotional trip for top sales rep, to Monaco on the off season! When they got into their hotel room and looked out the window, there was the famous hairpin. My Mom told the tour group about it, and they all had to get photos of it from the window. My Mom was the big celebrate for the rest of the tour, thanks to her gear head son! Cheers, Dennis

Seller did a quick flip on that - Sold at BJ Jan 25, 2024 for $85,800 + buyer's premium. Purchased Nov 7, 2023 for $50,000 in Washington.

It does seem like a well-done FFR Mk IV - though not worth $94K, IMO.
