Default Updates

I DID see spark jumping, replaced the engine ground wire, cleaned up everything real good. Still have noise, wondering if the cylinder not firing caused other damage? There is no way in my mind that any sort of internal issue is going to cause spark to jump.

Also why just that hole?

It DOES sound like its up high though f#ck i hate stuff like this…
I ran it with the vc off and everything looks right. Pulled the rockers off, they are fine pushrods don't look beat up.
I did not look at valve springs…

The spark is from WHERE to WHERE?
The side of the plug lead to the head?
And it is still happening with a good plug AND lead?
And a video of the sparking jumping please, or have you torn too much?

Default Well think i figured it out (sort of)

Removed the entire exhaust on the captains side and discovered a (now) obvious exhaust leak Between the top of the header flange and the head not really visible with the header on…Still doesn't explain the spark.

I DID just have a system ground problem though, (the battery ground wire was actually cracked clear through, amazed it ran at all)…

I installed a new stout engine ground along with battery ground.
Things i checked
#7 compression
#7 valve spring on the seat force
#7 topside valve gear inpect -rockers push rods

I put it all together and ran it and used the stethiscope no internal noise…

Back to exhaust leak…

Why i was sseing arcing is still a mystery, UNLESS the leak would blow the boot off? Dunno

From Post 1:
Got home and started troubleshooting, discovered that the tick/tap stopped when plug wire 7 was pulled off the distributor. Tried switching plugs and wires no change.

An exhaust leak will likely stop when you pull the corresponding plug lead.
An exhaust leak can also sound like spark jumping.
I don't think it is spark from the plug you are seeing, but more than likely combustion still occurring as the exhaust valve opens, and hence "looks" like a spark through your "leak".
Fix the leak and you'll fix the "spark" issue.
Tommy and eschaider like this.

^^This^^
I had a similar issue that turned out to be an exhaust leak. It's amazing how much a void in a header gasket can sound like a mechanical tap.
