Stallion Help
I had a friend call me today regarding a replica cobra called a stallion. Does anyone know anything about this company? They supposedly only made 14 cars and they are a wide body style car. If you have any info on this car my friend would be very appreciative.

Stallion is now West Coast
I am assuming that they can help with any needed info or parts. I currently have a turnkey being built. Awesome modernized cobra under the skin, mostly cobra look outside, much improved tech wise.

I bet there are hundreds
Mohuska:
If we add in the original "Stallion" cars, I bet there are hundreds such cars on the west coast. We already know of you, me, West Coast Bill in Vancouver, WA, and I hear there is an owner in Seattle (Bill knows him if my memory serves) And I seem to remember a few other persons posting, from CA, with a west coast listed as their car. Go ahead and post a thread asking for West Coast and Stallion owners to sign in, and we can ask everybody if they want to form an on line group/club, for tech and comradere'
It is strange, but I lived not far from where the original Stallions were manufactured, at the time of their manufacture, but I never heard of them. Of course, I was a teenager, and girls and motorcycles and cars I could afford were more important
The wait for my turnkey is gonna get tough here. It looks like a long hot summer in Washington, I have actually been out riding my bike this week. Still hoping for April delivery on my serpent

Thanks for the response on the Stallion. Can you point me to anything that shows when or how West Coast acquired the mold or rights to produce this car. I am being told that the molds are now in Belgium and that there were only 14 replicas that were made in the U.S. and that the bulk of the production was done in Fort Worth,Texas. Your help has been very informative.

The link given explains the real story
Computerworks gave a link which, if you follow the links there, can fully explain the story. they were manufactured in the CA central valley, and there were hundreds made, sold to Hollywood names and all over the world. As far as I can see, the West Coast is the exact same car, with tech improvements such as suspension

MY MEMORY
STALLION WAS PRODUCED IN FORT WORTH IN THE MID 80'S. RICK MIDDLEKAUFF HAD THE FIRST OF THE CARS BUILT THERE. ALMOST ALL HAD THE 429 WITH C-6 TRANNYS IN THEM. THE LAST TIME I SAW RICK'S CAR IT WAS FOR SALE 4 YEARS AGO AND IT WAS FOR SALE IN A GARLAND FORD DEALERSHIP NOT HIS PLANO STORE. RED, NO STRIPES AND A MAJOR GAS LEAK IN THE TRUNK AREA. THEY WERE ASKING 36K FOR THE CAR.
THE CAR APPEARED AGAIN TWO YEARS AGO AT DENNY SEARGENTS CAR SHOW IN ARLINGTON. I LOST TRACK OF THE OWNERS NAME SHORTLY AFTER THE SHOW.
I'M STILL SUFFERING FROM POST AUSTIN DEPRESSION

New West Coast Cobra Owner here.
I recently acquired West Coast Cobra 18-82 (18th kit built in 1982) from the estate of the late Charlie Bruno of Charlies Mustangs.
It is in "1982 As-Recieved" condition, in boxes, bags, and kit form...he never got around to assembling it. I'm putting the front suspension together now...it's never been on the car!
So, I would be more than interested to converse with any and all West Coast and/or Stallion folks. This project has just begun, and will be probably 2-3 years in the making. My plans include an 8:1 429, aluminum CJ headed BBF, Ford EEC-IV Fuel injection, and unnatural induction ala a Novi 2000. 800fwhp is the goal.

OoooK !
Maybe it was the J4 coupe that was made in California, in that case I was mistaken. But the production ended in 1980. Here is a quote from the Kellison Stallion web page, mentoned earlier in this thread:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Kellison Stallion was a limited edition luxury sports car, designed and built from 1976 to 1980.
117 of the beautiful cars were built and sold to car collectors all over the world. The cars were powered by 429 Cobra Jet Ford engines.
The Stallion Prototype was constructed in the early months of 1976 and was extensively tested at the old Vacaville, CA road racing course. Over 50 hours of substained speeds at 125 to 170 mph lead to a well handling, yet comfortable road racing machine.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ByronRACE:
West Coast has newer, improved suspension systems, including a coil over rear system. Check with them before you get too far into the suspension work.
Wait till you see the WC turnkey being built for me right now, it has all the goodies I could find ! It should be here in April or so
Of course, all West Coast cars have the 9 inch Ford rear end, and a fuel cell, plus the excellent sturdy spaceframe, power brakes, power assist steering, and the extra steel shielding from road, driveline, and an insulated firewall.

Hmmm, that different huh?
This '82 WC Cobra has a 9", 4-link rear, and complete Mustang-II front suspension including the sheetmetal crossmember and the original mustang-II (powerless) steering rack. It also has some pretty primitive looking master cylinders (one for the rear, and one for the front) with no reservoirs...
Looks like they've done a few things since 1982.
O'well, for what I paid for this kit, I certainly can't complain.
I'll be putting together what I have and making it functional before I worry about upgrades...I have everything already.
Something will have to be done about the brakes...front 10" rotors and rear drums trying to stop this missle from 100+mph is more excitement than I need in life. The largest front disks offered for the Mustang-II front suspension seems to be 11.5". So, the choices would be to fabricate something or swap out the front suspension. I intend to put a supercharged 429 under the hood...brakes would be a good thing.

Thanks for all the responses. I think I finally got to the bottom of the story. A local FTW oilman was to be a dealer for Stallion and had put up 100,000.00 for five cars. They were never delivered, so he sued them and won. He moved the production to FTW and renamed the car "Texas Stallion" They only made 14 cars before going out of business and sold the rights to someone else. How West coast ended up with I don't know. Jay, you are right on about the gas leak as I noticed it right away. The current owner wants 45,00.00 for the car,but, I advised my friend not to buy as the condition of engine and drivetrain are unknown. Thanks to all!

That explains things
Thanks for that clarification, Kingair. And to everyone, I think Vern Redel used an Artnz cobra body to begin his development of the West Coast cobra. I do not know that he had any other tooling, etc.. from Kellison/Stallion.
ByronRACE: You MUST upgrade the brakes. These cars are even heavier than a *standard* cobra, and with a supercharged 429, you need the power ABS brakes Vern now offers. Ask him if you can use them, if not, look into Mustang and Ford 9 inch performance brakes !
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BY THE WAY: Can anyone clue us in on the ARNTZ cobra? What, when, where? I know nothing about them, unless they are the Stallion somehow?
Questions about the Texas Stallion
I have seen and talked to a owner of a Texas Stallion. He is currently going to be putting one on sale on Ebay within a week or two.
He stated and has showed that the reason why most of these smell like there is a Fuel leak is actually because the builders created each of those cars with a plastic fuel tank. Since fuel is a Petro chemical and has a very strong scent, that the plastic lets off the smell.
Mine smelled pretty strong but I found that the mods to the top of the cell to allow a sending unit, filler neck and siphon tube to be of poor design/poor workmanship (I purchased a completed car from a private owner.) I immediately had a custom aluminum cell made. No more fumes.
His plans with the Texas Stallion
If you know anybody that is interested let me know. I will be putting it up on Ebay within a week.
Starting Price is around $42,000.00 It comes with everything including manual and an ad that was used to promote the Stallions.
He plans on replacing the tank with a new one probably the same thing that you did.
99% of the cars made today have plastic fuel tanks (even my '88 Jeep Wrangler was made with a plastic tank). Most are made from multilayer plastics - most common is High Density Polyethylene sandwiching a barrier plastic layer. Unless the tank was made from inferior materials, I would suspect there is a leak somewhere. There should be no smell if the tank was made from plastics that are commonly used for this purpose.
WEST COAST CARS
I HAVE A WEST COAST CAR AND MINE HAS A STRONG FUEL SMELL ALSO. IM CURRENTLY TRYING TO MODIFY MY FUEL TANK SOMEHOW SO THAT I CAN INSTALL THE SINGLE HOOP BEHIND THE DRIVER. I DONT REALLY LIKE THE FULL LENGTH ROLLBAR. IM HAVING A CHROME 3" SINGLE HOOP MADE TO REPLACE WHAT I CALL THE "DUNE BUGGY BAR"! ALSO, IM PROBABLY GOING TO RELOCATE THE FUEL FILLAR CAP OVER THE PASSENGER FENDER
LIKE THE ORIGIONAL CARS. I THINK THE WEST COAST LOOKS LIKE A COBRA ON STEROIDS WITH THE WIDER FENDERS AND SLOPED NOSE. NEEDS TO HAVE A ROLLBAR (FATTER THAN AVERAGE) TO BE IN PERPORTION WITH THE REST OF THE CAR.
