Well I waited and then got ready to see this fabled burn out.
I'm certainly not trying to step on anyones toes, but if that was a burn out then I guess what I call a Burn out constitutes a major
infraction. Mine usually last about a half a city block until the car starts to come around then a quarter turn of the wheel corrects
and we burn some more at half sideways. If your gonna do it then do it. I like to do them especially at school crosswalks and
in blind children areas. Or in Hospital zones. Really, all these posts and pages and stirred up people. In a world where idiots strap bombs on themselves we are spending alot of time worrying about a 20 yd little tire spinning.. It's almost funny but not.

And I guess while I'm not doing anything constructive right now I'll add another thought. I waited 35 years till I could afford to buy my dream car. Now after only 6 months I'm almost considering selling it. Maybe it's just me, but Oh is that a Kit question has taken alot out of owning it. Yea it's a kit built by homer and bubba out behind the shed. The inference of the question really takes the wind out of ones sails after the 100th
time you have to answer it. I want to say ..No you F******
idiot it's a mirage it's not real. The cars that kinda look like mine,but are nothing more than an old wrecked mustang with a kinda of look alike body really scald my cranberries. THe pride of owning a very correct car is lost in the wasteland of bad copies.

Maybe I'll get over this cynical ( SP) stage and maybe I won't, but the kit question is almost always asked with the inference

On your observations of what constitutes a burnout it's refreshing to see sanity show up to this little party - completely uninvited I might add and yet most welcome - thanks for a little honest and rational perpective to put a cap on this "pissing contest". Although I must confess to visualizing that burnout you described in a hospital zone with blind kids crossing the street and a bomb strapped to ya - Yippee Yo Kiyae - Jaysus 'ole creeper will redline his sanctomonious meter...

As to the issue of the kit question I think you answered it yourself. The next time someone asks that question give 'em the answer you said you'd like to say "No you F****** idiot it's a mirage it's not real." and if that doesn't make ya feel just a little bit better keep giving that answer until ya do. Funny, but kids rarely ask that question or any other truly stupid questions and it begs the question "How do they grow up to be stupid adults?" - hmmmm...

I had a look in your gallery - nuttin - so I have only your description to go by and it would hardly qualify as a kit-car in my book. Enjoy your great ride - f*ck 'em...

You've got a very nice replica of a classic car that was sold as a kit. Did you not know that when you bought it?

If you want to say REAL and ORIGINAL, then sell it, add about 100k and get a very nice CSX2xxx car.... and solve that problem.
If you want to say REAL at a cheaper price, then sell it, add about 50k and get a very nice CSX4xxx car.

...otherwise, we ALL own replicas that started as kits. (Turnkeys are just finished kits).

"...bad copies.." is not the problem; authenticity is lost on the general public....they all look alike to them: they see "cool car" regardless of how good or bad a copy.

Just imagine if you had spent a quarter million dollars on a REAL, ORIGINAL Cobra. Nine out of ten people at a car show would STILL be asking you - "....what brand of KIT is THIS?". Now THAT would really hurt.

You have a top notch car - don't let the strokers get to you.

I built my car to look like an "original" too, with lots of extra detailing (aluminum on backsides of fenders, Girling fluid reservoirs, etc., etc.) - but believe me, it's lost on 8 out of 10 people who see it.

I consider my incoming West Coast to be a PRODUCTION car manufactured by a small specialty auto manufacturer. It is not a "kit" although you CAN buy them as a kit.

It's a new, custom production car, not even a serious attempt to "copy" the original, so it's not a "replica" anyways...

As to the burn out, I'm with Searanch and Denny...a real burnout is one smoke filled Slim pickens bomb riding (Dr. Strangelove joke) experience, not to be done around a crowd...the videos shown so far are pretty tame, just lighting up the tires...this is why I considered them so funny..not saying I would have done it myself, in that location, but it is no big deal, no one forced anyone to stand there close up and observe, from what I could see. Whatever happened to personal accountability? (The bystanders, and any parents, had plenty of time to vamoose!)

I knew when I purchased my car that it wasn't ( REAL) But I wasn't ready for THAT QUESTION to be to be asked first off before anything else. Maybe I thought that the beauty of the beast or the great sound or who knows would be the 1st words

Denny - I suspect we all get it, (the "is it real" type question). I have given up thinking of snappy comebacks, now I just say "YES". ANd then they shut up and go away.
After all, they didn't ask a real "what"? did they? It doesn't detract from the pleasure of a summer days' drive, nor the pleasure of the company of the folks I have met because of the car.

Your taking you car to all the wrong places. The show and shine lookers are always asking if it's real. Take it to a race track, nobody cares if it is real or not only if it is fast. I only had one bad experience at the track with my car. A bozo came over and looked at my car and told me he had one too but his was nicer than mine.(his words) and all of the parts on the car were much better than mine. I asked where his car was so I could have a look at it and he said I never take it to the track. I told him to f--k off.

I agree with Cranky and the others--enjoy the car for the pleasure it brings you.

Funny thing--you'll hear comments regardless of what performance car you drive. When I had a 92 Vette, it was the first regular C4 Vette that had the square tail lights--only the ZR1 had them before that. Always asked if it was a ZR1, and then got "looks" when I explained it wasn't.

Other than SAAC, etc. when do owners of real ones really drive their Cobras? I'm sure there are a few that take them out once in awhile. I have a close friend who owns part of one with a group--none of them ever take it out. You can drive yours everyday.

But hey, if it bugs you that much--sell it. No flaming intended--just do what's right for you.

At work and around town, it's "Gawd, that's a beautiful ride!"

I'm willing to do the occasional drive-in, but I'd rather be driving than polishing. So I've written up and laminated what the engine is, and what the body is. Post it on the window and let them read it while I look at other great pieces of art.

Actually--if you READ the posts, you will note that I mentioned that Turk and I had a disagreement about the burnouts in London when we were giving rides--he was not happy about them. Kiss Turk's "butt"--not likely.

You invite the responses--again you weren't there, but that didn't make your point invalid. It's just that you keep coming back taking what you think is the high road. You forget that there are many roads to be traveled in this place.

I find that you have done little to promote your "safety"message here with your references to cleaning up the mess, etc. from drunkin teenagers, etc. Cranky and others have strongly suggested folks using the tracks--which is a valid alternative. You have offered nothing except to condemn.

Nobody here actually promotes being jackasses on the streets--there are varying opinions on what types of "fun" can be accomplished in a relatively safe setting. I don't think anyone is entirely correct, or wrong.

But you, on the other hand, have a one-track mind as exemplified on this thread--no more than my dog, Buddy, when he decides it's time to eat or take a dump.

We do understand your view points which are well taken and certainly well meaning, but your badge does not provide special privileges or exemptions from good social behavior and sound judgement. Believe it or not, NOT everyone is guilty in life and there are many good people that are concerned about others, just as there are many good police enforcement officers that wouldn't think of abusing their authority by beating a Haitian or performing a rectal exam with their night sticks like some of your brothers in blue so eloquently performed recently. So is one person's indisgression enough to warrant a gross stereo type of everyone? You're supposed to be a professional and have received instructions on interpersonal contact, why are you trying to drive home an idea when you weren't present to adequately evaluate the situation? Maybe you had better familiarize yourself with "heresay" before pointing at others!
