a "real" cobra in gumball 3000
I don't have the energy to "edu-macate" these guys, anyone here want to jump in:
http://www.biggumballs.com/home.html
it appears they are either driving the least acurate replica ever or a 1:18 scale model.
I'm not quite sure which.

Good luck to them if they do

Try this: when selecting the link, go to "Our Car", then look at the dash photo and side photo.
How bout that radio?
How bout that side vent? - phone must have been ringing when the jigsaw stopped working.

perhaps the old adage "a fool and his money soon parted" once again rings true...Sounds to me like this Gumball3000 is the same folks who are running "the players run"....See the attached url for the details (or lack of details), and the bull**** hype......
Players Run, Are they legit?

Real amateurs, here: The full-size red car is a poor excuse for anything. It appears to be a f/glass body plopped on some frame that uses a leaf-spring rear suspension. My guess it's a Camaro. And the engine they call a 427, it's a sb Chevy with a "Cobra" air cleaner. You can see the leaf spring extending out behind the rear tire. Check out those half-scale side vents. At least they acknowledge there is something at this location.
The blue car is an 1:18 scale ERTL as shown on eBay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=1925768370
Buy the "Honda based Cobra" for sale on eBay and sign up to run in this event and you'll fit P.T. Barnum's business philosophy, "There's a sucker born every day."

There is a term that we used in our youth that accurately describes the abomination in the pictures, FUBAR! The best example I've ever seen.

"Real" Cobra
I realize that this may not be a "real"cobra that I am racing in the Gumball, but it is the only car that I was able to be accepted in. The race consists of mostly exotic cars and flashy rides. I tried entering my Neon but that wouldnt fly. I am not a man of great car knowledge or any car knowledge for that matter, but I am looking forward to participating in this event with or without a "real" cobra. I will be more than willing to drive one og f your "real" cobras in the event. I already paid the 15k entry fee which is more than my neon is worth, but I really look forward to experiencing the time of my life. If anyone wants me to represent a "real"cobra I will drive it and promote you or your business as best I can. Sorry for the replicar.
Will

G.R.-
I wish these guys good luck too.
I think they're gonna need it.
From what I've read about the gumball3000 it's a bunch of trust fund kids and some British celebs. Basically your "more money then brains" group. I would love to participate in a cross country race, it would be the ride of a lifetime.
This one seems like more of a "conspicuous consumption" run. IMHO a trip like this should have the "challenge" of not having 100K cushion in your trunk. Getting in trouble is half the fun, with this much money and euro drivers licenses. How much danger are any of these guys in. Driving from 4 star hotel to hotel is not quite what Brock Yates had in mind.
willphill-
It did seem that you were representing this as an original cobra on the site and probably to the people at gumball3000. No harm no foul. Just be straight with people.
The 15k is just the beggining from what I've read online many people drop 50-80K.
I wish you well. it may be a race to see what gives out first the cobra or you wallet. I'm sure it won't be you guys.
Have fun.

FARK www.fark.com
great site, right up our alley
Oh and if I were to do it I'd probably try it in a WRX Sti that would be fun.

WillPhill,
Wow, $15K for an entry fee! By the way I would estimate the "cars" value close to or less than $15K. Chevy motor drops re-sale a LOT, as does automatic trans, under car exhaust can be ok, but not the way this one is done. Leaf spring rear? Uh oh,,,$10 to $12K MAX value is more like it. BUT with some Gumball history that might help!
The race sounds fun! No soft top on a cross country run? Ouch, you guys are tough!
Ernie
Sorry WillPhill,,,but your setting yourself up to take some "heat" about your car, no matter WHAT you call it.

Boys,
I’m sorry that I raged on your C..C… Co….car. I think it is cool that you are pursuing a dream and I recognize the need to prioritize as far as finances are concerned. Please accept my apologies and keep in touch with descriptions of the rally in general and your performance in particular.
Cheers, Pete

unbelievably these guys won......well they were the first to hit the last city, Miami. I'm not sure how they figure who wins.
The Cobra didn't even make it to the starting line they used a mitsubishi spyder rental.
