REAL 1 - Or should I say, REAL DIPSH!T - You need not remind me of the following -
By your reasoning then, Shelby put his name and a big motor in SOMEONE ELSE'S DESIGN - AC, like you just said...Therefore it was NOT his design of the car, better yet; taking what someone else had designed and making it faster. Isn't that what SPF does ?? Uhhhhh, do ya really think he was the first person to ever think of that ??? So from what you said:
"The same grumpy fart that put his name on the AC's to make them Shelby Cobras in the 60's is the same grumpy fart that puts his name on the current CSX to make the new Shelby Cobra. Just in case you forgot."
...Therefore we lowly folks who can only afford "Pretend Shelby's" are doing the same thing HE did - Using someone else's design and making it better, IN CASE YOU FORGOT. I did not build my SPF cause Shelby made the AC car famous fella, I bought it cause of it kicks the crap out of just about anything on the street, and makes a goregous noise while doing so. I actually think Shelby is a egomanical, selfish greedy prick - I'd be much happier if somebody like Smokey Unick had done what Shelby did.
But your too blinded by the name registry and pedigree of your "AC SHELBY COBRA"...
Next ?

4000 series- Replica
I have stayed out of the real v. replica debate thus far, but after reading Evan's last post, I got curious and pulled out the dictionary and I hate to burst bubbles or offend anyone, but I think the 4000 series are replicas .
replica- (1): an exact reproduction (as of a painting) executed by the original artist.( 2): a copy exact in all details. See Webster's Collegiate Dictionary 992 (10th ed. 1997).
I think we can safely say that the 4000 series is a reproduction of the original cobras, and they are certainly executed by the same artist (after all that's why people are willing to pay the premium for the CSX badge). Therefore, based on Webster's first definition, I think the 4000 series are replicas . . .
In fact, based on this definition, one can argue that the only owners of replicas are 4000 series owners, since none of our "replicas" are exectuted by the same artist.
Again, I throw this out for the sole purpose of advancing this debate and not with the intent of ruffling any feathers.
Excuse me while I go duck and cover.

Argo 1: Why the hostility? Just stating the facts. Sour grapes suck. Shame on you. Sad. Enjoy your SPF replica. I'll enjoy my Shelby Cobra.
BTW: The 427 was Shelby's/Miles/Arning design. Not AC's. Didn't you know that???? Guess not! So before you call others dipsh!ts (which I suppose makes lowly persons feel better) make sure you know your facts first so you don't end up looking like a...well....dipsh!t.
Further what SPF did was to copy the look of the Shelby Cobra. Its just that simple. If you think anything else your just kidding yourself.
I had no idea why you built your SPF nor do I care so its not that I forgot. You profess to have bought your SPF faux pas Cobra solely because of its ass kicking horsepower and not because of its replication of one of the most famous performance cars of all times. I'm not buying that line. Sell it and buy a Lister, Lotus any of the other cars that will offer similar performance.
Nah. You bought the SPF also because of its terrific looks because it replicate one of the most awesome looking cars of all time. Be honest.
CSX envy is a terrible thing. Only two cures. Accepting the facts or buying a Shelby.
Chaplin: Yes. The CSX 4000 are "replica" of the original by virtue of the fact they fit the techincal definition as found in the dictionary. They are exactly the same as the first series ie. CSX 3000's and come from the same person who offered the original. In order to be the exact same as the original CSX they must by necessity replicate it. Agreed.
The difference is, however, while the CSX 4000's are exact reproductions or replicas replicas of the 3000's as they would have to be to be the same as the original they are also REAL Cobras. They are Cobras of the second series which are exactly the same as the first.
So in the end they are replicas which are REAL Cobras as opposed to say...a SPF replica which is not a Cobra but a superficial facsimile of a Cobra. A pretend Cobra if you will. (Sorry Argo 1. The truth hurts.)
I point out the above not to be condesending. I'm just stating the facts. If anyone thinks otherwise all I can say is get over it.

Shelby
Since 1967, when I made my first Revell model of one (painted it Pantera yellow with a brush) I had lusted after a Shelby Cobra. Not a Superformance, Factory Five or Kirkham. As the money I saved grew, so did the price of a CSX 3000. I am now the happy owner of an authentic Shelby, but not an original Shelby. I couldn't afford an original (or more correctly, couldn't justify owning an orignal). The car I own is a pretty as can be aluminum bodied (by Kimmins) Shelby Cobra. That's good enough for me. It was a long journey to get here, from 1967 to 2002, but it wouldn't have been completed if I bought something else. Furthermore, if a signed authentic car, I suspect at some time in the future, it will appreciate quickly, if only for a brief time, ala' Ferrari F40's after August 14, 1988.

My point was that you are misinformed and your statements are less than accurate. I think Lew needs accurate information to make an informed decision.

But then again it's all a question of degress of excess - how excessive does one need to be ? I'd rather be excessive on my hp and motor rather than other peoples idea of "exclusivity"...

Evan, agreed. The 4000 series are real Cobras, but replicas none the less. But if the 4000 series can be the only replicas, what must all others be?? Reproductions???

REAL 1
Actually I really don't know it all - that's why I'm on here, to learn from others...You on the other hand seem to only own a Cobra to say you have a Shelby, thus your avitar...Who cares, maybe in the wine and cheese circles you hang out in, but get your butt on the track and as I lap your ass you'll be enjoying your original replica, which as you say - is so original because:
"Shelby's/Miles/Arning designed" the 427 -
WOW, that was a hard, lets extend the front and rear fenders cause we put a bigger motor in it and it needs more traction...DEEEERRRR, any friggin idiot could do that. Thus, it bacame the Shelby AC Cobra. It was not his design smartguy, he just made it faster...He still copied someone else's design and you cannot deny that. So enjoy yours and I'll enjoy mine, and hopefully one day we'll meet, on the track, where the 427 S/C was designed for, and I'll put you and your expensive original replica in the wall.

Argo 1: I'm not a racer. Just a lover. Besides I would never let my REAL Cobra be in the company of some crazed pretend racer driving a pretend Cobra on some race track. My Cobra is too nice and valuable to risk some chuckle head trying to damage it out of CSX envy.
Besides you scare me! Put me in the wall! Ouch! You must be really tough and fast!
Yes. I continue to deny the 427 was AC's design. I also deny that Miles, Arning & Shelby were/are idiots. You on the otherhand...well..
Do some reading on the 427 Cobra and its history then well talk. Edgemacate yourself first. A mind is a terrrible thing to waste.
CSX envy. Its a terrible thing.
Chaplin: Don't know. Maybe "pretend Cobras"? Who cares.

Hmmmmm...
Little wonder there is a concurrent thread on why nobody shows up to Cobra Club get-togethers anymore.
I bought my car to get away from it all, enjoy the fresh air, pretty fenders, burbling noises and fruits of my years of labor. If this is what comeraderie is, I can get that by going back to work. The only thing that is slamming into the wall is this website.

Brett: Unfortunately there are some guys who are so envious about the fact that some have a Shelby Cobra and they don't they'll resort to threats of physical violence. Sad. Just stating the facts seems to get them crazed and in the "Shelby attack mode".
Doesn't change the facts though.
