New Year's Day Cruise -- SNOW!!!!

Wow! The Capital Area Cobra Club has an annual Frost Bite cruise on New Year's day. We cruise around DC w/ various photo stops, then finish the day at the Hawk & Dove bar (where all the capital hill muckity-mucks hang out). Well, this new years day we got about 2" of rain, so we decided to postpone until yesterday (1/5). We weren't scared of the 20% chance of snow flurries. We're manly men (and women!). We thumped our chests and declared the cruise a "go". Little did we know what we were in for! We had 22 Cobras and a GT350 Stang signed up early in the week, but only 8 Cobras and the Stang braved the elements after hearing the forcast. They were probably the smarter members of our club.

So much for the "flurries"!!!!!! Some of us live closer to DC than others, but Beth and I put on 120 miles in the snow! Weird sensation in an open car.

I can't wait to do it again next year!

Nice to see that I'm not the only nut out here on the east coast..........I did however get in a good 5 miles or so on New Years Day before the rain really started to come down hard (no top on the car for my annual drive)..........

PS: From experience, throwing a good dehumidifier in the garage set on high works wonders for drying out the interior overnight

As one of the highly intelligent individuals that participated in this "snowshoe" cruise, I can attest to the fact that handling was excellent, especially if you like to see the scenery go by in sweeping 360 degree arcs!

Actually, if you feathered the loud pedal, it wasn't that bad. Hills were a bit of a challange, though. So were wipers that cleared only about a 6" swath on the windshield. Best part was the looks of other drivers as we blew by!

As long as it was just slushy on the roads, they do ok. I had one stretch of about 12 miles where the road was still snow-covered. In that situation, the high horsepower, short wheelbase, wide tire combo doesn't do so well!

Thanks for the post and the pictures. I've been called crazy on a number of occasions for running rallies in the rain. I've driven on some pretty big patches of snow in mountain passes here in CA. But man! You guys have guts!

It seems like an extreme way to reduce overheating problems.
