There is so much we will never...
understand about why things happen the way they do. We can only hope that as time passes wounds will heal, and understanding will come. God bless all.

My wife and I were out riding on the same day, and we can relate to the perils of the road.
I was stopped for a left turn at a light and a raised 4X4 screamed by within inches of the Cobra. He was picking something up off the floor @ 65mph.
Could have been ugly - no matter what type of car.
Our sincere condolences to Steve's family and friends..

Loss of one of us.
For any reason,
We have lost a valued member of our club, and the loss of another human being with serious injury to 4 others(with a contributing factor of not wearing seat belts in their vehicle).
My sincere condolences for the loss of life, and my prayers go out to those left to repair the damage done by this horrible accident.
There, but for the grace of God, go I.

In response to rdormans question regarding rememberances, the family has asked that in lieu of flowers that any memorial gifts be sent to the University of Kentucky School of Music.

To all parties involved in the tragic accident. My family and I wish to express our deepest heart felt sympothy and condolences. It is always sad when we hear of these tragedies. There are certainly no winners in these situations. We are Christians and will pray to our Lord Jesus Christ to help and aid all involved in the tragedy.
It will always be ONE NATION UNDER GOD IN OUR BOOK!
God Bless to you all.

Highway fatalities
ALL cars are unsafe. Something like 50,000+ people a year die in cars. Some are more unsafe than others. As a physician I have seen severe injury and death in every mode of transportation imaginable, from skate boards to motorcycles to 18 wheelers to military armoured personel carriers. We have ALL driven our Cobras over the speed limit, especially with an out-of-town visitor on board for the first time. Something horrible happened in this event (something always does), either mechanical failure or driver error, or "act of God" (animal in the road). If the speed limit allowed school busses loaded with children to legally drive 45 mph, surely an experienced mature adult driver driving a near race car could handle 70 mph without any difficulty under normal conditions. If the speed limit was 45, it was probably pretty open, straight road. I suspect something untoward happened, like mechanical failure, animal in the road, front tire blowout, other distraction, or something else exceptional that could have caused the car to go off the road and cross the center lane at a slower speed, too. I doubt if going 70 in a 45 had much to do with it, other than worsening the damage and shortening the response time. (This does not condone speeding). Heck, I've been demo'd in a Porsche 911 4 wheel drive when the salesman took a 25 mph off ramp at 70 mph. Scared me to death, but the car was designed to be able to do that.
Sincere condolences to all the families involved. Whatever the cause, great suffering has been created. God be with you.

Our compassion and condolences cannot reach Steve or his passenger, and we we remain very concerned about the passengers in the other car. But the Health Insurance Act of 1996, or "HIPAA" , is very very strict about medical personel releasing medical information about patients. The final provisions of this act, protecting patient confidentiality, goe into effect April 14, '03. There are severe Federal sanctions for medical personnel who violate this Act.
So there is no way for someone other than a family member to release medical information about the other people in the accident.
We all hope that they will recover, and continue on with their lives. It has been a long time since i have lost a friend, and i remain saddened and somewhat disbelieving that this happened 6 days ago.
