Default The BEST Part of Owning a Cobra?

Here's a question for all the good people out in CobraLand: What is the best part of owning a Cobra? Is it all the attraction the car draws whenever we go somewhere? Is it the sound as we go thru tunnels and under overpasses? Is it the fact that gorgeous women LOVE to tell us "You have a beautiful car!" ? Is it giving rides to those same beautiful women? Is it the fact that when we drive by a schoolyard, all the kids come up to the fence like the Dingoes at Tom's Dingo Farm, next to Betty's Day Care Center, (from the FAR SIDE cartoon?) How about driving thru a parking structure, "romping on it", and setting ALL the car alarms off? Tell us your best stories!!! Edley

Default For me...

it's the way the sound and fury pump right through you. Never before felt such a connection to any car. Doubt I ever will again.

I was stopped at a light one friday night last summer when a very attractive young lady gets out of her car full of friends at the light and says " you look way more fun than my friends. Do you mind if I ride with you" That just doesnt happen in any other car.

If the Cobra only made noise in tunnels and overpasses I'd be thrilled. That noise is going to get me tossed out of this condo association...(bunch of old farts for neighbors) As far as giving some strange gorgeous woman a ride because she's fawning over the car, well hell, getting tossed out of the condos would be the least of my worries... I'm sure my wife would tell me just to keep right on driving with my new found friend.
Not sure driving by the school yard is a good thing to do anymore.
However, Tom's Dingo Farm is a possibility.
I guess the best thing about owning a Cobra is meeting people of like mind and interests. Most helpful bunch of people I've met.
I don't think there is a Cobra related problem they couldn't help me with. A very talented bunch of people. I saw my first Cobra in 1966 and now I own one- That's the best part..
As far as the noise and the neighbors- We can always move and take our car with us...

Greg,

What did your wife say when you made her get out of the car?

Were the other girls in the car nuns also??

Well, i suppose the best part has been meeting so many folks who share a like interest.

But equally so, even with all the enjoyement i have had in over 48K miles, is the mutual relationship it has fostered between me and my now 23 year old son. We have always been great friends, but our shared experiences, long trips, track time, maintenance, upgrading, etc, has given us many hours of laughter, teaching, learning, and just good ole Father and Son time together. I truly believe our SPF has given us memories that will last our lifetime.

What could be better than that?

That feeling you get when the engine wakes up and the pipes talk to you

The thumbs up from men and women as you drive by.

Pulling up to a stop light and knowing you do not have to race to let the guy in the (insert your choice of muscle car) next to you know you have a bad ride.

not so good
It takes 30 minutes to fill a 16 gallon tank. 5 minutes of pumping gas and 25 answering questions.

I don't know what it is about these cars, everyone loves em!!
I was tinkering with mine Sunday, wife was gone,I took a little ride, she was back when I returned home, as I am backing into the garage, she sticks her head out the door and frowns at me and says," you know I like to go for rides, why didn't you call me??" I say it was a spur of the moment thing, she say's well so is this pal, let's go!! It was cold!! and dusky, nearly 50°!!
We had a great ride and she made me promise to take her to Ventura and up the coast to Santa Barbara and back home, around a 450 mile round trip, asap!! This was her favorite trip on our Harley, guess I'm lucky she is always up for one of my adventures!!!!

Best part of owning a Cobra,

The Volume for the audio system, is the same pedal as the air conditioning control.

KISS engineering at its finest.

Talking The BEST Part of Owning a Cobra

When you are stopped at the lights and the guy next to you windes down his window an yells "Now thats a car". Or when georges shella tries to get in the car. Plus all the above.

Having the car in the garage is a real ego boost, Driving it is loads of fun. But, I think one of the best parts is the challenge of making it better. You can always dream of little upgrades like dissappearing backup lights or big ones like slipping in that Shelby aluminum 427. When things get boring, you can check out deals on eBay for a better carburetor or hula doll. I spend a lot of time improving my rally computer, too. I just figured out how to make a lighted pushbutton change from green to red with a couple of transistors.

The Cobra is a great hobby in so many respects. It's also a work of art that still grabs my eyes even after 21 years of ownership.

Being in the garage on weekends and watching NASCAR, playoff football, etc while working on the Cobra. Now that's living.

oh, the sound, the feel on the road, the acceleration..the sound...the looks...the LACK OF : cup holders, spare tire, radio, power steering , power windows or door locks, power top, air conditioning, back seat, sanity in owning one...(yeah, i know , some snakes have some of those creature comforts ) .. yep, there are so many positive things that overpower the negatives. a pure adrenalin rush driving one...no rational reason to own one compared to so many cushy creature comfort performance cars today...except they are TIMELESS in design and will live forever as an icon of speed, beauty, performance and brute power to weight ratio insanity. bill.
