The BEST Part of Owning a Cobra?

Coming back from Vegas through Death Valley--long straight stretch as we came down from Panamont Pass down into Owens Valley--the rampart of the snowcapped Sierras in front. Doing 140+ behind Turk, and Pat and U2.

We were masters of the world in those moments...

I'm a newbie and am looking forward to my first ride in mine. Have no idea when that will be but everyday that I go into the garage and do something on the endless list of things to do, I know I have gotten 1 step closer to that dream. The title of this thread is wrong for me though, it should read "The best part about owning "MY" Cobra...

I't's a toss up but I have to say one of the best things is each day on my way to work I pass through my garage and there in front of me sits that gleaming hunk of beauty. Each day I get to look at it on my way out the door and each day it's there to greet me when I return, begging to be driven. Either way I look, Cobra on one side, Harley on the other, it's a great way to start and end each days routine. It just gives me a little grin each time I pass and knowing that nobody around has a better ride than that, it just makes it a bit sweeter.....lol. However, this certainly doesn't diminish the joy that comes from hearing it on the open road, the long lustful looks it gets from guys driving the family car, or the thumbs up's from all the high school kids as you drive by. Let's just say, in the world of cars, we're a pretty lucky group of guys !!!!

The best part for me has always been that every trip brings something new. Been that way since ' 82". Brings the some ol' same ol' into proper prospective. Without it I would have gone nuts,,,,,,,,,,,,,, a long time ago.

When I was a young man,,,,,,,and I had a 66 Stang, I would sit in a chair in the garage and just look at it, just hang around it! I remember it was SO cool. I haven't done that in years,,,,,,but I found myself doing that with the Cobra! And it never wore off, I was STILL doing that right up until the day I sold it.

Nothing could have prepared me for the attention, admiration, and notoriety that driving, and owning a Cobra elicits.

Typical MO for cars I have owned in the past is the sleeper. Stock appearing, dog dish hubcaps, slightly lowered body, firmed up suspension, free flowing but relatively quiet exhaust, tweaked 455 engine, and larger tires. Very little outward appearance of performance until secondaries were opened. Rumpeta - rumpeta idle through "turbo" mufflers occasionally gave away non-stock engine.

This Cobra is way different. You feel like a shark in a school of fish. Your next meal is entirely at your discretion. Most hot rodders will admire your ride and not attempt to try you on. Some new factory rods, (Saleen, Steeda, or Roush Mustangs, Vettes, Beemers, and Porsches) may try you on. Up to about 140 mph where aerodynamics (or lack thereof) takes its toll, a Cobra has no competition.

And your Cobra doesn't need the biggest, baddest engine to rule the streets with. A mildly tweaked 351W works just fine, because your Cobra is at least 1,000 pounds lighter than your opposition.

And it's not just acceleration: it's braking and cornering that makes for an ideal Sports Car. For a street driven car, that means taking 35 MPH Freeway entrance ramps at 75 - 85 MPH.

Although the Cobra is the ultimate Sports Car, it has drawbacks. Getting into, and out of with the top on is a pain, but you can't stop anywhere without the Q&A session. Is it a "Real" Cobra
(No, It is a reproduction/replica - it IS a real Cobra, but was not produced by AC/Shelby).

Is it an original Cobra? No. It is a reprodiction by CR, ERA, etc.

Hitting the garage door opener, and seeing the unmistakeable shape of the Cobra, even under the car cover. Roll the cover off the car, and seeing the paint glistening in the light. I cant help but touch the sensuous, bulging fenders. The chrome rollbar shining at me, the whole car seems to be saying, "C'mon, let's go for a spin! Let's see whats in this big, beautiful world we live in!" Pop the hood, check all the fluids; everything is as it should be. I reach in and open the door, step in, sit on the seatback, and slide into the cockpit of this magnificent Street Warrior. Put the key in the ignition, gas it once, crank the key, and the 351W sings its eight-cylinder song, settling into a lumpy burble and gurgle as the temperature slowly rises to operating temperature. Scanning the gauges, each telling its story; 14 volts on the voltmeter, oil pressure at 50 lbs, the tachometer needle doing its dance. I recall the next-door neighbor saying how she hears the Cobra start up, and she cant wait to go for another ride, and her time will come soon. I snick the five-speed Tremec into first gear, and we slowly pull out into the driveway, past the gate, then to the front of the house. A little reality sets in, as the dogs have run out of the open gate, and are running up and down the street, barking at squirrells and the neighbor's cats, sniffing the yard for traces of the wild peacocks that wander the neighborhood. Augie, the 9-year-old hounddog, comes soon after I call him, but MonaCeeya, the female pup new to the household, decides to roam about some more. Put the Cobra in neutral, set the parking brake, (which actually holds the car from rolling on the flat driveway), exit the car, round up the dogs and put them back into the yard, and close the gate. Back into the Cobra, seat belt buckled, and we're off to see what we can see. I work the Cobra through the gears, hearing the revs rise and fall in each gear. Not a mile into the trip, a young woman in an SUV pulls next to me at the first light. I look over, she says "Beautiful car", and she smiles, and we exchange waves as I drive away. It cant get any better than this, I say to myself. And the trip is just beginning........................

Ok, this is a super old post but sometimes it's fun to bring them back around again. My favorite part of owning a Cobra is the the SOUND. I love the sound those sidepipes make especially going under an overpass or during hard acceleration. And second would be the attention it gets. People will rubber neck every where I go and some will even want their picture taken with it. And probably the last thing is just the body shape. I can think of anything that has nearly as sexy of curves as this car...well...except for my wife.

Bill's right - it's the driving. A nice drive in a powerfull open roadster on a sunny day just can't be beat. The feel of the road and the engine as you accelerate through the gears is pure Nirvana. It brings joy to the heart and a smile to the lips. Your troubles melt away as you leave them behind in the garage. It's a feeling so difficult to describe, but something you yearn for every day of the week. Better than Lexapro and Viagra combined.

All the other benifits mentioned above are great, but they're just the added gravy.

This is a real car for real car guys (and girls) - not a cocoon to insulate you from what it feels like to really drive.
