Phil Remington, Hot Rod Magazine, Dec, 1966
Paul House emailed me that he saw a copy of an old HRM that was for sale on Ebay that had a an article written by Ray Brock on Phil Remington. I subsequently bid and purchased the issue. The opening quote was a classic:
"Why don't you do me a favor and tell your readers about the guy who's most responsible for my being where I am today"? asked Carroll Shelby. "I've had all the publicity I could ever need", continued Carroll, "but the man who is the mechanical genius behind this operation hasn't had a fraction of the acclaim he deserves" (referring to Remington).
Well........personally, I don't know if Carroll could EVER have enough publicity but it was a great quote. One has to remember the exact period in which it was made, too----December 1966. CS and gang had won the '65 Championship the year before and had just won the '66 Le Mans race and were on their way to winning the '67 Le Man 24 hrs. It had to be a heady time for everyone. What a great place to have worked when all these successes were taking place. I don't know about you but I would give a million dollars to have been the janitor at SAI during that period.
If anyone is interested I will fax you the article. The first ten requests I will honor. Email me at dhampton@rwbaird.com with your fax number.
