Building your own is something you would always remember and take pride in, but figure on going over whatever budget you set. I did a resto on a 68 mustang and I would never do it again (took twice as long as I thought and cost twice as much!) A lot of fine memories though! I think you can find some pretty good deals on used Cobras, but you have to shop around. I think some try to get MORE than they paid for their car! Last time I was on Cobra Country there were a couple SPF's that looked like nice cars but the prices were a bit high! New Blue / Wht w/428. 100 miles but they wanted 65K! Another was a Drk Blue SPF w/ 418, 300 miles for 59,900. You can order a NEW SPF w/ a 418 (granted, not the billet motor as listed, but all forged parts) for low 50's. Maybe some people will pay more (especially in the spring) for a SPF that they can drive away in that day instead of having to wait the 4-5 months to have one built. Money to burn, I guess!

Cleaning out the garage and thought about this post, the tools you will need to make your build enjoyable........

Air compressor
large assortment of air tools
drill press 5/8 chuck
metal lathe-gap bed
bench mill
engine hoist
engine stand
jack stands
quality hydraulic jack
mig welder
Hand tools
Computer with fax/scanner/printer/copier
A little money and patience

I may have forgotten some items but, I'm sure there in the garage.

Now have $40k into the Unique. Original estimate was $37.5k - totally forgot the state wanted taxes ($1600) and the paintwork went $1500 over the estimate. Everything is new; motor from Ford, Tremec from D&D, Unique from Unique. Sell it for ? - who cares; that's not the point at all. Looked hard for 6 mos. at buying one put together but. make no mistake, you will compromise on color, motor, trans, etc. Have built several cars and even more motorcycles in the past 30+ years and I can tell you that this build was the easiest by far. Got the car end of May; bodyman had body from 1 June to 1 Oct; since Thanksgiving, needs only alignment now to be on the pavement. Would I do it again? - positively. Would I make $ at it? - nope. Would you lose $? - some. If wealth is the objective, buy real estate on the water. If sheer pleasure is the objective, buy a Cobra, done or in kit form, and remember you only live once and regrets are a waste of time.
