Default Crazy Barrett Jackson Cobras

I found it nuts that a $45000 Autokraft sold for $70 something.
So what it had a 427!

I also found that an $80,000 CAV GT 40 sold for $118,800. Why?
Is someone trying to create a market buy shilling a bid?

A Shelby 4000 Aluminum body Aluminum Motor plain car for the 150's?

Lets not even talk about the Elenor car....Nuts. It's a Mustang!

Kit car guys....Why go crazy and spend the cash for the 427 motor when what appeared to be a really nice Contemporary with a 427 sold for $32,400? Get a small block....

Conversely, a GT 350 REPLICA convertible with a 351 sold for $31,200.

I hear you! Go figure. My guess is:

Theres been so much "press" about the "investment" opportunites to be found in "classic" cars it's mostly "speculation" thats currently fueling the market! A replica GT-350 for 31K? Thats ridiculous!

How about a '69 Mullet Mobile(ZL1) for 275k? Don't forget the '70 Malibu(LS6 ragtop) that went for 172k at last years BJ. A '70 LS6 ragtop only brought 49k this year.

I wonder why the guy that has his Kirkham on Ebay didn't run it through at BJ, I think he would have been pleased with his $$$.

The clones are another story. Why are people paying big $$ for clones? I would think adding options to make a clone would lower the value of a specific car.

A lot of the people at Barrett-Jackson showed up with fat checkbooks with their hearts set on buying at least one special car. High prices are the result of this "gotta have" attitude combined with the crazy auction atmosphere.

BJ Auction Prices?
I watched bits and pieces of the auction and thought that the whole market was pretty soft, maybe a reflection of the economy. I agree that a smart investment in a true collector automobile may be a better investment than those made by my financial advisors or than rates you can get on a CD. But then you have to figure in all the auction fees, both buying and selling; they can get alitlle expensive when you start talking $100K+ and you want it to go thru in prime time. My $.02 - it's a buyers market now, and will be for some time. I think I'll hang on to my TRUE 348 mile '91 GMC Marlboro Syclone for awhile; UNLESS??
Happy Trails Guys,

Hey that was one of the best factory musclecars ever. all aluminum 427 with 12.5:1 compression. The engine option cost more than the base model camaro that it was added to. Funny that all 69 of them made their way into camaro's and none found a home in a vette. But $275k that's an expensive camaro

The camaro was a very nice car.
Not worth $275 though. Didn't have original motor.
The guy that purchased the GT-40 mk1 got a good deal and a nice car.

"Mr.Fixit"
Actually they made 3 69 vettes with the ZL1. Collector car indeed.
A alum 427 that ways less than a 350.....
Love to see how much one of those go for.

Cheers
Jim

Steve: I forgot. What was the selling price on CSX 4027? That was glass bodied, right?

I seem to remember $125,000.

Cool

The Barrett Jackson auction is already over, yet the buzz is that the Shelby GT500E is already back on the market (bankrolled buyer per chance...Done so in order to make the original pricing structure of these "replica" cars seem legit in the current marketplace)........While some of the prices seemed a bit high compared to the last two years worth of sales, there did indeed seem to be a large grouping of late 30's to early 50's guys with large checkbooks, and a willingness to spend whatever it took to "make the sale" their own.........If I had the money, I would have been there bidding right along with them on several muscle cars of the 60's and 70's......................High pricing, well, maybe......Yet affordable to those who purchased them..............

The GT500E car is in our shop right now. It is a VERY nice car, but no Mustang is THAT nice!

Mr. Fixit, The "Mullet Mobile" remark was tongue- in- cheek, I love those Camaros. I'd rather just build a nice clone for about 245k less than the real thing.
BTW, I used to have a REAL1(no not the haircut, the Camaro[just a 327 car]).

Barrett-Jackson declined additional Cobra entries.

Only 2 ZL1 Vetts, not 3. Saw one of them about 10 years ago.

Good taste my man.

A '69 camaro was my first car, base model with a 327, glide and 2.73's in the 10 bolt. Bought it when I was fifteen, had it finished and sitting in the garage waiting for me to turn 16 and get the license. I did have a mullet at the time, no kidding. The pictures of me and the camaro in "chevy high performance" prove it I would still like another, but an RS

Evian,

Oh pure one. Don't forget that 4027 did have "more original detail the most original restored cars" and including rare parts that would take "Indiana Jones" to find.
Yes it did sell for $125 in glass.

The one that sold at Barrett seemed to be just another car but, I stand corrected if need be.......

Notwithstanding....Is that a law term???

Luv ya....How's the car?
