One of the ways this is done is to take a standard Mustang and add on the components to make it resemble a GT350.

Agro,

Cobra Automotive <www.cobraautomotive.com> specializes in race prepping and building these. They are in CT, and Curt Vogt I think is Pres. of company.

Contact Brian Lee at 9169878321. He is located near Sacramento I purchased mine for street use but he also builds for the track. My car has won awards at the Norcal Shelby club events. Give him a call. Good Luck!

Agro,
I also recommend Brian Lee. He did a GT 350 clone for me as a daily driver and I'm having him set up a 66 coupe as a track car. Very knowledgeable, honest, and talented.

Cheers, Pete

I have been interested in having a GT350R clone built too. About how much do they run for a dead-on copy?

Pete - Sambrozy:

I will give Brian a call this afternoon and pick his brain a bit...Being that he is in CA that might work out well for me. I spoke to Scott at Cobra Automotive in CT and he seemed VERY knowledgable and said they could make one for me, full race for around $35K. Does that seem like a fair price ? That includes a 347 stroker making 500 hp on pump gas. Regardless, I will take your advice and give Brian a call. Thanks for the help guys!!

Lew - Call Brian at Cobra Automotive

www.cobraautomotive.com

Tell him Luke told you to call, maybe we can get a good deal if we order 2

He said they take a '65 or '66 fastback and turn it into a dead on copy. Full frame off restoration made to order. He quoted me about $35 for a raced out version which is what I want. Also, take a look at their website...It really looks like they know what they are doing, have a tremendous amout of experience and give attention to detail nothing short of perfect.

I paid $21K for a street clone with a 4 pack of webers. It was a rotisserie resto that is about 5-7 years old. Dead on ringer for the real deal--people don't even ask "Is it real". It's actually all the parts off Shelby #146. It's in my gallery. I also have the GT350R nose for it hanging on my garage wall.

I did not have it done, I just bought the car this year from a friend of mine (another Cobra owner BTW). He bought/traded it from the guy who had it done. I am sure that prior owner paid the types of figures you saw above.

For further interest, he sold his "street" GT349.5, and bought a race GT349.5 that he has tricked out a bit. Probably only has $22K or so in that, but it will need a stronger motor to be competitive. If he is lurking on the board, I am sure he will chime in.

Default Stop it, stop it now!

You guys quit this talk! I've liked GT350's as long as I've liked Cobras, and now you're going to make me go out and pull the trigger on another car...my wife's going to make me buy her another horse!

Hysterical - Well I unfortunatly cannot have both, I would have to sell the Cobra to get a GT-350. That is what I'm kicking around right now...A GT-350R (clone) seems like it would be a better, safer cheaper car to run if it was only going to see track time, which is what I built the Cobra for...Any thoughts ???

Thanks alot guys. I come to a Cobra site and y'all keep making me add cars to my wish list. If this keeps up I'll have to build an airplane hanger when I build my house.
Is Cobra Automotives race version streetable? What are the differences between race and street versions?

SouthernFried - I would think the big difference in race/street would be about $15K...Race setup would have big brakes, different suspension that wouldn't be fun on the street, fuel cell, a motor that'll buzz to 7000 all day long, full roll cage, tubbed interior, aluminum flywheel, the list can go on and on and on...Basically a race prepared GT-350R would not be fun on the street, and the loud pedal would get your butt thrown in the clink...

...hey, that ryhmed.

Actually, I don't even need a GT350. I've thought for a long time about having a "Bullit" replica done for me. Seems like it would be a lot easier to call Cobra Automotive and have them build it for me as they seem to have plenty of access to these early Mustang bodies. I wonder how much something like that would run?

This is the Mustang of my friend who asked me to post it for him.

Based on the pic, it is either WAY out in front, or way behind

Wow, I've seen that guy race before. Talk about a great driver..Car is always sideways with the smell of burning rubber and the sound of screaming women, and that is just in the pits. Is that car still owned by Spyderman ? that car is exactly what I want .Raining with no wipers on a race track with slicks, he is probably the ONLY one out there.
I want one too now, thanks a lot.
