I can be verbose, and it is refreshing to see someone say it so much better with less.

Way back at the start..
...Hey, I don't want to highjack this thread but as I have this bad habit of sleeping at night I was off this turkey for a while.
CS was quoted as saying "that the Series 1 had to meet the same standards as General Motors"- NOT TRUE!!! SAI asked for and recieved temporary exemptions for the Series 1 cars i.e. NO passive restraints (air bags) for a fixed period. As that period has now expired I fail to understand how they continue production and sales. I have searched the NHTSA database and have found no information as to an extentsion of the exemption. Perhaps I have missed it but the point is they asked for a "pass" and recieved it, so don't claim to meet "the same standards as GM" 'taint so McGee.
BTW, remember when they said all Series 1 cars "had to be built as 1999 models due to our exemption" four years later are they still building 1999 cars? OH, wait, thats right, you can build and "old" model year if the parts have been laying around!

Rick,
I believe production has stopped until the car is recertified.

No fake letters.
No hip "shoot" statements.
No original Cobra with no VIN.
Just someone that was trying to help. Please read your posts, members. What a group of gentlemen! You should all be very proud of yourselves.

Calibrate, please...
Bobl...
I just had to go back and check your initial post...
"This fishing expedition..."
"Purportedly, this was, indeed, initiated by C.Shelby..."
"...certainly give rise to the speculation"
"...he's going to "get even" with this industry"
"Anyone, have anything to add to this?"
Hey...provocative, no?
You got what you asked for.
"Just someone that was trying to help. "
One question, now...just who were you trying to help?

BOBL,
You may very well be in Naval Intel. and your intentions may have been in the best interest. But if you are actually in the intelligence service then you know three main things.
1. Don't act without verifyable proof.
2. Our military and intelligence is a paradox. I am old and my time was the Korean area but even then it was not reliable.
3. To get real intelligence today you need to have it verified by two other groups not of our country.
4. I am not in any way saying that your information is inaccurate or that you didn't act in what you thought was the best interest of the car hobbiests. I am curious as to why Naval Intel. would be spending time on this.
5. If you are in a covert situation and can't give any details about yourself then you have to expect a lot of flack as there will always be people who do over react.
6. I have nothing but the utmost rspect for our militayr people and God help them because they are all that keeps us free to fight with each other.
7. Just don't get your pants in a wad because of some of the answers to this post. Keep calm, access the report from the way other people see it and you might actually see why you caused such an uproar.
8. And last of all, remember that no good deed goes unpunished. I think after reading all of your posts several times you really were trying to help but you used a very unthoughtful way to go about it, considering you are a complete unknown on the club and you refuse to divluge anything about yourself. If you are unable to do so because of military protocol or possible reprocussions then you should have stated so. Best wishes and if you are in the military stay safe.
Ron

Told the same
Gentleman,
I was told yesterday, "off the record" by a manufacturer, that they had recieved a letter form the Fed's requesting records of every kit sale since they started business. When I saw this post this morning I had to swallow hard. I'm on their list more than once.

Joe,
Thanks. Now you have added some credibility to this. Wonder if they are going to check on SAI and other licensed speciality car manufacturers.

Not choosing sides here
But, I have to wonder how long a certain importer can import cobras as car parts and/or motorcycle parts without rousing the suspision of some of the feds. I presume that even a peon on the dock somewhere could look at the cars and raise the question and send it on up the ladder. We are fortunate here in NC because there are no emissions requirements for kit cars. But that doesn't stop someone in the federal government from raising the question.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that Shelby has no reason to start this mess, it would be self defeating for him. But some government official doing the import paperwork might just so they could get noticed. If there is any truth to any of this at all!

It's a bit of a shame to see this forum change from a friendly, welcoming place for discussing all things Cobra to a hostile, edgy joint where a stranger wanders in at his own peril. I agree with Turk that certain signals (new poster, controversial topic, etc)should trigger vigilance, but - open hostility??
Maybe the guy and his motives are what some think them to be but to set upon him like he's a lost cat that wanders into the dog pound when we don't know for sure is just not right. It does not look good, guys.
Perhaps we are tired of being referred to as the family channel on other cobra forums and want to try to be mean and tough like they are. While those guys are a ton of fun to watch occasionally, I don't think that it is a good thing to emulate their style here. It doesn't take a very strong man to cuss off some stranger through a computer network, but it does take strength to stick by the principles that you believe in even when others may call you a pansy.
Bobl may be just a sh-t disturber, but though I could easily be wrong, it does not sound that way to me. I simply don't know. Remember, it was a little while back that disclosing our true identities was raised as an issue here (and a few people were strongly opposed). Is it possible that he did not know of this unofficial protocol or simply that he does not agree? If it is to be treated as a hard and fast rule, then it should be enforced and verified as part of the registration process.
Thats enough, Ah say, thats enough from you now, boy so go on back, Ah say go on back to your pee-nee colada before you git your tailfeathers flamed.

Following this thread has been very entertaining. I think I learned more about "people" than Cobras.

You missed the point.. Bobl may be right. Lets say he is for this moment in time. But.. WHO IS HE? This shroud of secrecy he blew in here with is amusing but more transparent than he might suspect. WNINTEL.. LMAOROTF
He didn't wander in here.. First rule of logic.. If it walks it walks like a chicken farmer, talks like a chicken farmer and looks like a chicken farmer.. It's probably a chicken farmer. (or his stooge)

Buzz,
I agree with you about the forum changing and I hate to see it go that way. Maybe it is time for the moderators to take a more active role. I also put my .02 cents worth in when I stated in an earlier post that there were rules that should be followed especially when posting something that could start a big controversy. As for people having to put their name on their posts, I don't necessiarly think that they should have to. I do it because if I post something wrong or vauge I will take the blame just as I would take the credit for anything I do right. HA!! As if I would ever do anything correct. But to imply that Shelby could be behind something like this and hide behind a screen name and not show anything more than vauge implications is not right. It just seems that more and more we are attacking each other and not trying to help. Remember __Corvetteman !! At least Joe stated that he was told off the record. Why can't we quit attacking each other and play nice, me included.
Thanks, just had to get that off my chest.
Ron
