Default 20" Wheels on a Cobra

Attended a big Hot Rod show today. I got talking to the guy that sold me a set of 17" Boyd Coddington smoothies for my wifes car. He showed me the new 20" version and it got me to thinking again.

I put one of the Smothies on the front of my cobra a while back to see what it would look like and I liked it but I figured I'd go with a 17" Halibrand.

The 20" tires would fill up the wheel arches a bit better than the 17s as the OD of the rear 285/30/20 is 26.8" as compared to 25.7" for the 315/35/17. Fronts measure 245/35/20 with an OD of 26.7" compared to 25.4" for the 235/45/17s.

I think the 20s would look good but I'm interested to hear other peoples opinions as well.

Here's a pic of the 20" rim above some 17" rims.

Cheers

Mike, Just my opinion but I think the 20 inchers look just fine on a Kenworth, Peterbuilt, Mack, and anything else that pulls a 40 foot trailer.
On a 35 year old car I think the 15 inchers look the best. BWTFDIK.

20" tires will make it look like a cartoon car, y'know the ones I mean, like on t shirts.

Let's skip the jump from 15" to 17" to 19" to 20" and just go straight to the 36" variety. Heck -- we can all them the "Yard's" instead of wheels

I actually like the wheel -- but stick to the 17".

To much of a good thing and it looks wrong.

Forget the wheels....
Wheels are a thing of the past.

Put tracks, like they use on Snow Cats and tanks.

I guess the trends down here are a little different to the US. We get all kind of parts turning up on the market and hot rod guys look at them and think "what can we do with this?". We end up with a whole different flavour of things. Maybe that's why many Pro US rodders are starting to look seriously at what we do down here. As an example Boyd Coddington gets the bodies for his Boydster Rod Kit from an Aussie company called Deuce Customs.

I don't quite understand what you guys are talking about "Dubs"? and gangsta rap references? it's obviously an American thing.

The Cobra is already a cartoon car, a roller skate on steroids.

Here's a couple of Corvette roller Skates.

Cheers

Default Say what?

Ha ha ha,,,,,,Aussie Mike,,,I think your onto it. The trend IS a little different down there. I got a LOT of respect for the Aussie contributions to the motor world, you guys rock!

But it does get a litte wierd when people take an American Icon (the Cobra) and tweak it TO much. After all mate, "tradition" and all that. It is FAR more common for "tweaking" to occur in Europe and down under than here. I guess were just "old fashioned" (and I like my Cobras that way)!

I mean if we let this go the next thing you know someone will be putting a Buick V6 in one........

Wait,,,WHO let the dogs out????
