Anyone know about Shelby putting plastic windshields (not racing windscreens) on original 289's when new? CSX2149, which Tom Cotter and I are restoring, has a plastic material windshield and has an Indiana inspection or permit sticker on it that is dated 1965 or 1966, if memory serves me correctly. That seems very early for such a windshield on a street car in particular.
I have installed a plastic windshield on CSX2401 after cracking two glass ones on the track. I went to the local distributor for the NASCAR boys around here and bought a sheet and cut out the windshield on my band saw. It fits perfectly and is scratch resistent to boot. Anyone need one? I've got enough extra from the sheet I had to buy to make one more.

The windshield and its sticker are going to stay on the car. Both are in good condition and it's part of the history of the car. I would like to figure out why the car has that windshield. I am writing the original owner, a scientist that invented Prozac, to see if he can provide me with additional info.

Default windshields

Jim - I applaud you for keeping that windshield on the car, too many people remove things like that when they do a "restoration". FYI, there are polishing compounds you can use to remove any scratches, I would have to look in my garage for the name of it if you would like.

On the racing windscreens, this picture is of CSX3003 and was taken around Sept '65. Steve, when you receive mine you will notice it has the same small dip in the center near the top, so I am now even more convinced it's an original. I put a note on mine to take out the dip (make it slightly taller there), but I now think it should be done the same way to preserve the character of the original. Mike
