Hood rivet patterns for the 427S/C.
Yes its that time of year again.
Someone I know is redoing the rivets on their Cobra. Not mentioning any names. I have been sworn to secrecy.
What are some of the original patterns for rivets on the 427S/C's. Did they vary from car to car. How many rivets were used and what was the pattern?
Feel free to bust my chops but while doing so at least answer the frick'n question.

Hey Evan
If you had a headache, would you go to a foot doctor?
Just bring it over. I have a compass and a drill. No Big deal. The pattern is planted or you could say riveted to my head..

Here's a good hood shot of CSX3042, an original 427S/C from SpecialK's own web site...

Jamo
Yhat is the correct pattern but either the hood scoop rivet at the rear center is off or the painter messed up the stripe. It should be dead center.

I saw that too Steve--looks like the rear of the scoop rivets are all a little off.

your gonna be sorry you asked...
OK Evan, you had to ask, eh?
..and you mean the hood hinge pattern, not the scoop, right?
Jamo showed you CSX3042, a very late (1967) S/C.
Its pattern is what we call 12-1-12 (one dead center, 12 rivets up each nose/side edge.)
However...
Uncle Steve will show you an 14-1-14 pattern.
But...
CS's own car has a 15-1-15 pattern.
Old documents and dwgs do show the 15-1-15 pattern as correct, yet Ned's car (3042) has been judged concours correct.
Wanna talk about the scoop, now?

Ron
I don't know the numbers you are saying. The phot has 8 down each side to the corner. That seems to be the general rule. I think I did 9 to the corner because I liked the one extra and have seen that as well. If you are talking Shelbys car. I wouldn't count it. It is also a replica. Stick to cars with original hoods like I did and you can't go wrong. I used 3053. The last S/C built.

Important
The first rivet on each side should be even with the first rivet on each sides of the hood scoop.
Ron as for the numbers. When I was a boxer in High School, I invented to famous 1-5 punch...
2,3 +4 I got...

i would do that way again
lookeds perfect to me and those that got picky.
CSX 4027 Lives on. Marge from Motorsports with Bill Guentzler said they get at least 2 call every week with people sending pictures of 4027 to get theis done loike that.
Marge did say I helped raise the bar on this stuff. Not bad for a plastic car guy that happened to say Shelby on it.

No doubt about it, Steve--you did a nice job.
But you've got to admit--Evan went that extra mile...

....you didn't show the underside...there are little wingnuts on those rivets to facilitate a quick pattern change, if required.

How many inches are there between each rivet? It looks like about 2, but it's hard to tell from the pics??
After looking at that job Evan did with his rivets, I'm definetely going to calling him to come over and help me if I decide to put them on my hood
