Default Best Automotive Design of All Time

Been down this road before, but we have a lot of new members and people do have a habit of changing their minds. Give your choice for the best automotive design of all time (your favorite).

A number of years ago Road & Track took designers, enthusiasts, and writers from a wide number of automotive magazines and polled them on this question. Guess what design won?

PLEASE!!!!! Only ONE mention. No "my second and third choice would be" stuff. ONLY ONE. Take a guess at the second question if you like. Hop to it.

I remember a vote for most beautiful car ever about ten years ago and the winner was the E type Jag.

Cal - It seems to me I remember a question like this several years ago, but I'm not sure if it was the same "contest" to which you are refering. I believe the winner of the one I remember was the Cisitalia.

Question way to tough!

My favorite...hmmmm

American- '53 Studebaker starliner. Low,sleek, beautiful w/simple
clean lines. Stack it up against most of the rest of the
early 50's cars and it was light years ahead. Still looks
better than most. But alas...Studebakers get no
respect.

Foreign- '61 ferrari 250gt........Stunning......Nuff said.

as for the best of all time impossible to pinpoint.Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! This thread could be as bad as a BB vs SB thread.

everyone have a good one!

Ernie,
Beat me by a second... reason I did not pick the Avanti (since I have one) is that it evokes only two responses...
"I hate it"...
"I love it"...

But like a Cobra I surmise, after a ride, there is always a smile

at least they get a little respect.

Design? Do you mean visual impact? Engineering excellence?

Or how about a car you can keep running for darn near ever with not much more than duct tape....

... original VW bug.

Avanti 176,,,well get some pics posted of that bad boy! An Avanti is "art", not everybody understands "art". The "timeless" beauty and styling cues that will keep that car "modern" for....well...forever!

The Model T or the Bug may be the most important designs...

The Jag XKE may have won some votes...

The Cisitalia may be in the MOMA...

But, for me...the 57SC Atlantic coupe by the ultimate Master.

Thumbs up

Turk
No laughing here--had a client in El Centro that had one in the early 80s--smoothest thing I've ever ridden in despite the dirt roads--and a Maser engine to boot. Actually a damn good choice.

But, as with my choice--it is French! FTF, but love some of their cars.
