Fred,

I know of NO ONE who has not been happy with Southern. I do know of one case that I was privvy to where the person was the type who would never be happy with anything unless they were complaining. That one instance I know of was resolved in a fashion that was WAY above and BEYOND what anyone would expect. And the issue was in no way related to the build by SAE after a post mortum.

Check out www.roushperf.com

They have a new 402 stroker...525hp, 500ft lbs....@$10k complete...

It's new, and I don't know anyone that has one. But it looks to have some pretty top notch parts.

I agree that Eric at Performance Engineering in Ross Ohio is probably the best Cobra engine builder in the country. Use him if you do not mind the travel distance. I am using John Vermeersch at Total Performance in Michigan. His shop is the technical support hotline for Ford Racing and he is close. He has lots of experience building and putting together Cobras.

What ToyCollector said!

I've been very happy with my engine from Southern Automotive. And it's not just the engine itself; it's the people and the service as well. Truly nice folks who care about making the customer happy, whatever that may take. I really can't say enough good things about those guys.

Keith

Thumbs up Many, many thanks to you all!

These responses are EXACTLY why I read so many threads, even though they don't concern my type of car or engine. My THANKS to you all! Now here's YET another thread high-jacking. The reason I was digging up the Windsor stroker info from you guys was that was what I was contemplating for my Butler. It presently has a Cleveland 390 in it. I have now been informed by Eric Miller, my local engine and race-car guy, that the "Cleveland should stay in the car---it's a strong engine and you can pull much more out of it than it's presently showing." Eric also said that the Cleveland is arguably a stronger block. Ditto w/ Bill Parham---he corroborated everything that Eric said. Both are now barking at me to let them do the rebuild.
What say ye? Is the Cleveland a "keeper"? Eric wants to do a complete rebuild and add fuel injection from some super place in Arkansas called "Street and Performance". The F/I unit is some droopy, curly looking deal, but Eric says that it will make the Cleveland a new and hyper-powerful unit. Agree? Disagree? More chat is welcome!!! I learn from every posting.

I would KEEP the Cleveland. Spent QUITE some time yesterday with Bill as he explained the differences in the blocks and HEADs. Also saw him fire up a Cleveland going into a Pantera. It had some Big Block ATTITUDE coming out of it--then again all his engines do What's wrong with a carburetor BTW? It is more period correct.

Enjoy the Jamomobile!!

Thumbs up Thanks Toycollector

The Cleveland looks like a keeper. The reason I was considering the Street and Performance fuel injection was that it would only cost $1700 more, it would simplify tuning, increase performance and allow me to toy around with a computer in tuning. etc. (I'm really not a computer type, though). My local Mech says that it's the way to go. Anyway, we'll see what the futre (and wallet) hold! And, Oh Yeash, am i enjoying the Jamo-mobile.
