Default 03' 390hp 390tq 4.6l Dohc Supercharged Donor

As many of you may know the 2003 mustang cobra comes with a bulletproof all forged internal 390hp supercharged engine capable of over 450 with about $1200 in bolt ons. I found this while looking around...thought it would make a hell of an engine for a cobra replica. Flat torque curve, revs to 7k+, all forged!!! Hopefully this helps someone out. This place also have brand new 03 MACH 1 engines and other goodies.

The engines are actually quite big dimensionally. Its only a matter of time before you see one in a Cobra, but I have to believe the installation is custom due to lack of mounts and other hardware that already exist for Windsors and FE's.

Good luck getting it to fit into a Cobra! In Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords magazine, they put one in a Fox body Mustang. It required a 6" cowl hood to fit the supercharger under the hood.

I didn't see an '03 Cobra engine on Mustang Parts Specialties website, but they have an '00 engine listed for $6000. So I'm guessing $8000 for the '03 engine. Add $1200 for bolt on, and you're up to $9200. For that money you could build a 427 SO or a heck of a stroked Windsor that would blow the '03 Cobra engine out of the water. (I've got $6000 into my 500hp 408W).

BTW, Mustang Parts Specialties prices are awfully high - you can get much better deals elsewhere.

EDIT: I just noticed they don't accept credit cards for engine purchases, just direct wire transfers. Wonder why that is???

Yeah..i know its huge engine...very wide. I know of at least one cobra, and ffr, that has a 4.6 dohc in it. I remember reading that it fit fine after mounts were made but that the wiring and computer were a headache. This was s few years back...so maybe its different now. I have read something about JBL's working on fitting a modular motor so that should be pretty damn cool when its finished. I also see on HDR site that they have pic's of both a cobra 4.6 and a lightning 5.4 under the engine options. The prices on the mustang site are outrageous for the most part...i thought the MACH 1's were priced pretty good though. THe 03' is under the "parting out" section...its a salvage. You could also get the IRS, brakes, and other goodies out of that sucka too. Man all this talk has my mouth watering to buy a cobra..but I've given myself a year to wait and save up. I'm thinking of a JBL with a stroked 498in small block

Fitting a 4.6 into a Cobra isn't the problem (...well it is a problem, but it can be done), it's getting the supercharger to fit under the hood. I guess you could just cut a big hole in the hood and leave the SC sticking out, but that'd look pretty tacky.

JBL is a great choice - wish I could have afforded one. I think I remember reading somewhere that JBL is working on modifying their chassis to accept a 4.6L.

Here ya go:

http://www.karkraft.com/engines.htm

2003 Cobra engine - $12495 390HP out of the box.

For $12K, you could build a 1000HP Windsor (427 with a blower)!
