I was at a carshow last saturday. After spending about 10 minutes talking with and answering reasonable questions about my Cobra,he leans over and takes another look at my 392 stroker.
He asks " Is it a 6 or 8 cylinder ?"
I'm just glad the engine wasn't running when he asked.
That might have been a little offensive.

Was at a gas station heading to DVSFIII and guy drove up in a newer Firebird....
Him: Is that a KIT?
Me: Yup, it's a replica of a 1965 Shelby Cobra roadster.
Him: Does it really have a 427 or just a 350?
Me: The originals had a Ford 427 or 428. I'm keeping the Ford theme by running a supercharged small block Ford.
Him: Oh!
Me: Have a nice day. Bubb bye.

Pre rehearsed answers
Ya know how it goes. . . "gee, I wish I woulda said that". . . anyway, I'll be getting my car back from paint soon and finally completing it. I should be able to enter it in a show or two, if not at least park it at a few local cruises. I am ready for the questions/comments based on all of your experiences and would like to thank you in advance for helping me think of these. Please feel free to this material at no cost:
Q: What is it?
A: What is what?
Q: Is it real?
A: Is what real?. . .(pointing to Cobra) Oh, you mean this?. . .
Who wants to know? Whattaya mean real???
Q: Is it real?
A: Why do you ask?
Q: Is it real?
A: No, Einstein, it's a freakin' hologram.
Q: Is it a kit?
A: Well, not anymore, but is used to be.
Comment: It's not a real Cobra, it's just a kit.
Reply: Soooooo, what are you trying to say???
Comment: It's not a real Cobra, it's just a Kit
Reply: I knew that! Anything else you'd like to share???
Comment: It's not a real Cobra, it's just a Kit
Reply: Damn, you caught me. . . Ya aren't gonna sue me, are ya?

I had forgoten this episode.
I was driving through Dubuque with dad as my passenger when we came upon two bikini clad young ladies at a stop light advertising a car wash. They both looked at DAD and one asked why doesn't he bring HIS car and get it washed. We were headed to an appointment and didn't have time, but they begged and pleaded with him and not me. I was 28 and single at the time! Talk about getting your self confidence destroyed. I told dad he had to wear a shirt that said it was my car from now on.

I was lucky enough to have Tom Kirkham's personal Cobra at my University's Enginnering Week SAE Sponsored Car Show. It was by far the best car there and it was during a regular school day. So we had a lot of foot trafic going by since there was 34,000 students at my University. Someone asked me how much the car cost and I told him. His response was, "for that high of a price you would think you could get a better paint job!" For those who don't knpw Tom and David's cars are not painted just brushed aluminum. We just laughed at him.

Today, in line at the Subway shop, a kid about 4 years old said "Is that your car?"
I said, "Yes it is. Do you like that car?"
His reply: "It looks like Stuart Little's car."
I dunno: is that a good thing or a bad thing?

Lowell,
I'd say that was a heck of a compliment. Stuarts car gave him freedom.
