1957 289 Cobra?
check out this 1957 AC Bristol with a 289 Cobra motor. Maybe Shelbey should sue?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...&category=6472
the bidding is almost at $50k

I like them.
But I thought the Ace was the third chassis, so shouldn't it have a CEX chassis #?
Or did they consider the cobra/Ace as the third chassis?
It's a nice car, but I like how the front end was re-done on the cobras.

Coil AND leaf spring!
Very interesting! Note the use of coil springs in front. Are the leaf springs only there for "looks" now?
Appears to have the original worm and sector steering.
24K for even a modest Bristol is a very good buy. It's no uncommon for "originals" to go into the 60's-80's. I wonder if the transplanted engine actually "hurts" the re-sale? I wouldn't be surprised. This is a FINE example, but not "period" correct!

I'd say it hurts the value, esp if it really was a Bristol engine in there.
How much would an original Cobra slabside be worth if it had a 460PI installed? I'm sure much less than if it had a 289.

I think your right! That must be why the coils. And yeah, it's got to drop the price like a rock not being "correct". Last Bristol I checked out was offered at about 70K, NOT restored, in original condition and looking pretty good, but showing it's age.
But you know the one with a V8 would be way more fun, lol.

Disgraceful - fancy taking a classic little British sportscar like that and ruining it by dropping in a large American V8.
Oh...........................

The Ace's had a weaker chassis than the Cobras. Many things were changed when the cars became Cobras. The frame rails are .065" thick. The uprights are pretty puny. This thing would definately twist when your gettin with it!

That looks like a modified dash to me- a little home made in appearence. Not a bad looking car, though, and maybe at $50K a good buy. The issue of structural rigidity might be an issue.
