Even at $1500.00 the big block will enhance the resale value of the car (when and if you ever sell it), atleast by $1500.00 or maybe more.
For traction: Don't worry. After the spinning, it will happen...sooner or later it will come.

I am not in South Fla... I am now In Alpharetta GA.
I was lived their for about 6 yrs Graduated from Coral Springs H.S.
However I am currently look at relocating back to South Fla... with my family. We are looking at homes in Wellington... in fact its on 441 just north of Lake worth Ave near Fla Turnpike... or move back down into broward County.

The simple solution to the BB/SB debate.
1. Get a monster engine, minimum 514 cubic inch.
2. Take complete motor to a shrinking shop and have it shrunk
down to a small block size retaining your cubic inch and 800
plus horsepower.
3. Now approach insurance company about insurance.
4. Start another insurance thread !!!

I agree with Turk as to resale.
In the end one way to torpedo the value of a "427 bodied" car is to put a SB in it. IMHO.
A better way to torpedo the value of your "427 bodied" car is to put a chevy in it.
The best way to topedo the value of your "427 bodied" car is to put a SB chevy in it.

Fasttoyz: Earlier you asked what I am building and when. My complete and completed SPF rolling body was just shown at the 2003 Detroit AutoRama this past weekend. From there it was taken over to Total Performance so that John Vermeerch can install a custom built 351W Sportman stroked to 408 with about 500 hp and torque and able to run on 90 octane gas. John's shop is the shop that answers the technical hotline for Ford Racing. I am using a TKO II road race transmission.
I want a car that looks authentic, is daily driveable, and is capable of use on open track and time trial events. I do not intend to race it, but I want to ocassionally let it do what it was designed to do -- run fast. My car will be full race equipped: fuel cell, full seat belts, dual roll bars, full race safety wiring on parts, 295 back tires, etc. I also have a hardtop. My car is highly visible: yellow body with green racing stripes.
If I wanted more race performance I would go with 17 inch wheels, but the 15 inch are easier on the body for street driving and look more authentic.
One additional thing that you should consider is to budget going to high performance driving school. My wife gave me the present of going to the Bondurant Grand Prix Road Racing School at the end of April. The Cobra is a race car that is street legal. She said that I need to know how to drive it and not let it drive me. Good advice. I have talked to lots of Cobra owners and they all agree that the Cobra requires more driving skill that most other high performance cars.
After I decided to get a Cobra, I joined the Great Lakes Cobra Club. I got the membership list and called and talked to many of the Club members. The club members were very helpful. I took rides and drove all kinds of Cobras. I made choices through experience, not just talking and reading. No matter what you hear on this site or elsewhere, there is no substitute for the experience of driving and riding in the cars.
I decided to not try and build the car myself but to go with SPF. Too many of the "kit" owners that I talked with had been building their Cobra for years and were still in process. I wanted a car that I could drive sooner rather than later. My car has about every option available from SPF. I wanted the features and the build quality of SPF and it fit my budget.
No matter what you do or choose, someone will think what they have is better. That is why you have to know yourself and build or get a car that fits your needs. Then is does not matter what others think. You have what is best for you.

Actually I think the 427 Cobra body would torpedo the value of my SBC dirt Late Model engines. Likewise, you'd torpedo the value of an FE427SO or an aluminum Shelby motor by putting it in a dirt Late Model and then try to sell it to a DLM racer.
How is putting an engine in a car and enjoying it, equate to trying to sell it. Not everyone derives their enjoyment from their car based on its accuracy relative to CSX4206 with original NASCAR 427 SO and dual quads. Not everyone is a pompous a$$ either.

That's exactly the point. Cars with correct engines generally have a higher resale value- it's just a fact. If you look at any Cobra with a SBC, the resale is significantly lower than that of a Ford engined car, whether it be a SB or BB, and BB cars generally tend to command more than SB cars. (there are exceptions, but as a general rule, I think it holds true)
If you never intend on selling your car, it doesn't matter what engine you put in it- put in and enjoy whatever you want. However, if resale is a consideration (which I think it always should be b/c you never know what could happen) and you have the $$, better to go with a BB or at least some form of Ford power.

I understand the facts of resale, honest I do. Consider this for a moment: since I bought my car without an engine how have I hurt resale value by adding a SBC? Take the engine out and it's just like I bought it. It's worth exactly the same without a SBC as it is without a BB Ford isn't it?. If you want to take the position that you would "torpedo" the value if you swapped out a 427 SO for a SBC, well OK. But that's not what we are talking about here is it?

Since we're going down the resale value road.... who cares? I'm spendin' my skins to make ME happy! Of course I can go either way without hurting my authenticity..... a BB for my 427 frame or a SB for my 289 body! Or maybe to be correct to my car, one of each.

Well guys:
Seem that my BB vs, sb Became a "LOOK mine is better" contest between sb guys and BB guys ....lol
Someone had said somewhere about three pages ago... " It doesn't matter what you get somebody else will have something that is faster, tricker, shinner, newer, lighter, cheaper, etc. etc."
And He is right thank you for bring that up!
I feel I got alot of great feedback and am most thankful for everyones input. I would like to thank Terry, Keith, Carroll among others who have helped me make my mind up. Oh yeah the guy with the Little Pecker comment for those guys with BB's.lol that was funny
Also who ever corrected me on Z06 and Viper thing the weight to HP and torque compairo is sticking in my head Thanks.
However:
I feel that for my COBRA. I will be stuffing it with a 428 FE BB w/485 hp and 495 lbs of torque give or take a few.
It looks like Southern Automotive will be building it with all the goodies I can afford. ( IF ANY FEEL I MIGHT WANT TO LOOKING SOME OTHER BUILDER PLEASE SPEAK NOW OR FOREVER HOLD YOUR PEACE) no really I would love to see what else is out there for the money....
I hope to try and recrate the essence of why we all love these cars... I will do my best to build it with the most correct engine I can afford and the most power my 12k can buy with top loader (4 spd tranny) as a combo.
Some of you have been cool enough the chat on the phone with me and let me pick your brains...
Thanks A bunch.
Now if only I can get A/C in my BB car...lol

they only use cobra cars and for only 449.00 they let you bring your own on the track. They is some really cool footage on their website its about 6-8 mins long. It would be neat to set it up as a group thing and see what kind of discount they would give us they will do as little as 8 people and as many as 24.

Sounds to me like you made a good decision. I too am getting a 428 from Southern Automotive with all the goodies I can afford-it should be done in a couple weeks. I talked to a lot of other builders, some more expensive than Southern, some less. In the end, Southern seemed liked the best choice. Also, have you considered going with the TKO or TKO II trans instead of the toploader? Not original, but nice to have 5th gear overdrive for highway cruising.

Obviously if you sold your car without a motor, whatever motor you had in it won't effect resale- unless of course there was a significant cost associated with converting the motor mounts from chevy to ford.

First you try to imply that resale value has no place in this topic. Which it clearly does.
Then you call me a pompass a$$ specifically referring to "not everyone enjoys their car based on accuracy specifically referring to the description of my car as set forth in my avatar.
Now you say its not the description in my avatar its my but my comments that everyone should strive to have what I have.
I do think the only correct way to do a "replica" is for it to be as accurate as possible. After awhile taking creative license results in cars that hardly resemble Cobras.
Thats my opinion. If that make me a pompass a$$ then I guess I'm a pompass a$$.
Even a pompass a$$ can smell envy a mile away.

Note to Scott and anyone else who hasn't met REAL1 in person.
NOT THAT I HAVE.
But if your opinion of him being a POMPASS A$$ is based on his avatar that would be so 8th grade. However, if you have met him in person, or have had some dealings with him and he the words pompass a$$ are kinder words then he deservers. Then I have a suggestion... it would be best that no one answer/reply back to him and he will go away... at some point.
If that is not the case Maybe he is just really Proud of what he has done with his car... and is trying to make a statement defending all of by Stateing so boldly how accurate our cars can be. I can't tell by his comments if he really thinks his car is the zenth of all replica cars and all others are dookie.
I find it hard to believe that anyone can be that ignorant and pompass knowingly and expect to be helped or liked.
I too enjoy smart a$$ comments along with good old cheap shoots from time to time... but its a buzz kill when it gets ugly.
We all have a common interest here and its the Cars... lets play nice.
