One carb or two
With a 427 SO motor, which is the better carb set-up for the road, one carb or two?
Thanks,
Lew

When you open the hood, two fours sure looks great! The only way to go!

What is the correct CFM of each carburetor for streetability? Over-carbing is easy to do.

It would all depend on whether you have a single or a dual carb manifold.

Got em, Love em.
But......................they are a little cranky....can be tough to get out the flat spots..............they will try to run rich at idle ,lean at speed.
And finding a real set of balanced vaccuum secondary 2x4 550 cfm carbs is not easy or cheap.
600 cfm's will work with the right jetting ,secondarys and linkage.
Some people run bigger , but they are probabley stroked engines and aggresive cams.
but when they are right they are Visious

Open mouth, insert foot.......
Well as long as you went to all the trouble to stuff that monster motor in there, why stop with just one carb? Isn't a BB all about "looks" anyway?
Uh oh,

If you will do any track time, you will want a single four. They are not subject to fuel starvation under body lean, etc like two fours.
If you mean "for the road" is street use, its awful nice to have 2x4 setup and you will not be sorry with this setup.

One 4 barrel is much easier and will make as much power as two 4's.
All of the comp. and s/c cars had a single 4 barrel.

For street applications, twin 390cfm Holley carbs are what is suggested........

I went from an Edelbrock Performer with a 750 Holley to a Blue Thunder with twin 600 Holleys. Runs much smoother with no hesitation. The trick is the right carbs with the right cam. I think Carlsfordparts still has a few correct sets. If you give Carl your engine specs, he'll help you out. Good Luck.
