Protectant for Polished ALuminum
I want to find a protectant coating for my polished aluminum valve covers. Last week while watching a truck & car TV program a product called ZOOP was mentioned. This product is supposedly a wipe-on item that creates a protective film that can last up to three years. Of course I have forgotten the rest of the name and can't even remember the name of the TV program (Old Timer's Disease has me). Does anyone know of any wipe-on coatings that will protect polished aluminum? Thanks to all who respond.

SuperHart: I've got good nesws for you.  I had the same problem, but it was with polishing the aluminum prop on my airplane. I'd get the thing where I could shave in its reflection after using Mother's or Neverdull, but the next day the finish was a dull oxidized mess.
Then I ran into this fellow at the Charlotte Auto Fair who was pushing his polish. Since I was at the same frustration level as you, I bought the stuff. Turns out it works better than anything I've ever used to both polish and protect against corrosion. The product name is 200 MPH All Metal Polish. I was surprised. It really worked! As for ZOOP, I have never heard of it. But 200 MPH polish goes on easy and wipes off easy, too. It's not like the typical metal polish that is nearly impossible to get off once it dries . . . and the stuff doesn't require much elbow grease.

It's a catalyzed material, takes a bit more than "just wipe it on", supposed to be very durable. I've not used it, saw it demo'd at SEMA, looked very impressive.
There's also a number of clear coat (paint) products that several members have used, and I'm sure you'll get posts about those.

go to ffr forum,excellent review of most clear metal protectants.The zoop product is expensive but it is a long term protectant,not a polish and apparently works very well. chuck

ZOOPSEAL, that's IT. Thanks a bunch, Bob. I wanted something to apply to my new polished aluminum valve covers that would create a longterm protectant. Zoopseal sounds like just what the doctor ordered.

Por 15 sealer
Por 15 also makes a polished metal sealer that runs about $30.00 dollars. Its a brush on type product that ,when dry, the brush strokes don't show.

I just ordered a cleaner and sealer combo yesterday, I will be using it on teh valve covers, manifold, gas cap, etc. I'll let you know how it works. It was $21.00 after tax and shipping.

Zoop or 200MPH Polish?
Do you guys know if you can use these products on surfaces that will get hot? I should be taking delivery of my motor in the next two weeks and since I can't do anything with it until I get the car, I was going to polish all the aluminum on the motor. In addition to the valve covers, pulleys, etc., I would also like to polish the heads, waterpump and manifold. Will either of these products take the heat?
p.s. I did look at the Ozona Report that Ron posted the link to, but he only tested at temps. up to 275, I imagine that heads will get a lot hotter than that.

Hi Chaplin, Yes, I use 200 MPH polish on my stainless side pipes. Does a great job and causes no discoloration or fogging with the extreme heat. The good thing about this stuff is it polishes and protects, so I'm sold on it. Bet you could guess that.
