Default windshield mounted Raydyot Mirror - opinions please

I have just fitted a Raydyot mirror to my windshield but am not sure if the mounting looks OK. Photos are in the gallery. Opinions please and/or alternative suggestions ( preferably with pictures ) would be appreciated.

Pderouss - picture is of the finishline bracket, although I mounted mine higher up than it was intended.

Allow for the fact that this is a rh drive car!

Personally, I think it is a great idea to mount Raydyot mirrors on the windshield post. I made my own brackets out of .125 aluminum plate, cut them out using a cardboard pattern with a jigsaw, sanded the edges smooth and attached them to the windshield post with screws that were cut a tad longer than stock. The bottom of the bracket is sandwiched between the lower windwing mounting block and the windshield. On the passenger side I found that the mirror could not adjust enough to allow the driver to see down the side of the car so I bent the bracket outward approximately 20-25* to compensate. With the mirrors on the windshield post there is no interference whatsoever with the windwings and there is no visual interference from the rear fender flares because they are mounted closer to eye level. Look at the following photos:

Saw this one at SAAC in vegas this February. It was the nicest mount I have seen for windshield post mounting.

Aother view. The bracket was so thin, you could not tell it was not part of the windshield frame.

Hey Turk, that's my Cobra that you took the mirror mounts of at SAAC. I wish you would have introduced yourself. I'm new to the board and have followed many of your posts. The mirrors and mounts are available through Newport Shelby Cobras (949 851-6319) Ask for Dave Parcell.

Nice to meet you.
I met your car first, now you.
I was all over that car. Very nice, very well done.

It is a long standing Club Cobra custom, you must immediately get a set of those and twirl it over your head three times and light a candle for three hours and ship them immediately to the name appearing on top of the list.

Failing to do that will bring bad luck, Some lawyer from Fresno broke the chain once and he was costipated for 4 weeks.

TURK

I will call Newport Monday.

OK, OK! First thing tomorrow, I'll start twirling!!! You didn't happen to get any other pictures of the car that day, did you? I can always use more if you did.

Thanks to everyone for the ideas and pictures. I'm now off to the garage to dig out some alloy plate so that I can attack it with a jigsaw.

By the way Wilf - I too drive on the wrong side of the road. In fact I think I have a picture of your car and mine parked side by side at Duxford. Will try and dig it out and post it on the gallery.

pderouss - great Duxford picture. How come we didn't speak at the time?? Strange to meet via a US forum. If you want any more pictures of that finishline mirror mount, email me, I am still in the early stages of digital-camera-ownership frenzy.

Now all we have to do is work on your forum "handle" - sounds french to me.

Superhart--just nitpicking here-- I really like your mounting system for your mirrors, classy looking, but I think you need to cut off the excess on the mirror bolts--I know nit pickin'

Slither --nice mount set up-- how was this accomplished?

G.R., the guys at Newport Shelby Cobras (949 851-6319 Ask for Dave Parcell) attached the mirrors. I'm not positive but I believe they made the mounts.
