Paint Protectants
I am currently in the process of having a very expensive paint job on my cobra and would like the paint to last for awhile (without having to leave it in the Garage  )
I have heard that there are clear spray on and clear sheet materials that can be applied to help avoid dings.....
Can anyone help with this....Anyone using one of these types of products?
How does it affect the paint? |

Mohuska: I believe that you should drive the Cobra just because you can; most paint jobs "fail to last", I believe, due to exposure to sun, harsh car waxes, everyday wear-and-tear, etc. If you keep your car covered in a garage, it should last many, many years. I do have the clear sheets on the front underside of the painted body to keep the nicks down to a minimum; it looks pretty good and it is hardly noticeable. I drive my car a lot, about 8,000 miles a year, and gladly exchange a few rock chips for the pleasure of driving the car. Sure, the car isnt as "clean" and "spotless" and "show-ready" as others' cars, but I am having the time of my life with this Cobra!!!

You covered the subject perfectly. What we ALL might be interested in is the brand name of the clear plastic and whether the interface or seam shows where the application stops.

Here's a place that sells the clear sheet stuff already precut for a Cobra. I haven't tried it yet but I plan to before I get my car on the road.

Fred, I will check tonite and give it the "Can You See It?" test. House of Cobras, in Anaheim, put the stuff on a few months ago when the Cobra was there for some front body-work. I think it looks good, and is hardly noticeable, but I will check for sure tonite! Check back tomorrow. Edley

I do not know much about this product but when I picked up my BMW the dealer told me I should look into Armourfend. A customer there seconded his motion and no, it is not a product the BMW dealer sells or applies. Try their website

Thanks everyone for your input...I still have a couple of questions...
1. Can you see this system after it is put on?
2. Will it yellow or change color with time?
3. Will it damage the paint either when applied or when removed?
4. Does it require a professional to install (so that it looks good)?
I am speaking primarily about the invinci-shield...I have info on this...but welcome answers to other brands of paint protectants..

Any plastic film you apply over your cars paint will be noticable at a close look. You can always see the edge of the plastic. Walking by it might not be noticed, but you would always see it. It seems that once you see an imperfection that it always seems to stand out after that. I dont know if they make a reusable one, that would be nice for tracks and long hwy. drives.....
