Question ??? Oil cooler lines ???

What type of hose did they use on the original
Cobras in the 60's for the black oil cooler lines ????

AN fittings or crimp type fittings ???

Thanks,
Bill Cook

Bill,

That is a question that Cal Metal or Jim Maxwell could probably answer for you. I have seen them with both types but I am not sure some of them came from Shelby that way. I think the first ones that I saw that I actually knew came from SAI with the oil cooler were AN fittings but I can't even remember that for sure. I know a lot of people added oil coolers after buying the cars and some used different types. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Ron

The original cars used regular (black) industrial hose. It's a little hard to see here, but the hose is coming off of the remote filter. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the racers replaced it with stainless-covered hose though.

I believe the originals used a black cloth braided hose made by Weatherhead and forged steel AN fittings by the same company.

All in -12AN, not -10AN as is currently popular, particularly with the folks using stainless braided stuff.

Weatherhead is getting pretty hard to find these days, but Gates and Aeroquip make similar hoses, and Gates makes a pretty nice line of forged steel reuseable fittings. I am not real fond of the Gates hose because of the preponderance of markings on their product, but it is what it is.

My .02 cents worth.

Bud

Default Hose

Use the Parker Black Braided 5/8th. 06827
You will be happy.
If you are a good boy, I will tell you the correct fitting to go to the oil cooler.....
