Agro1,
When you start becoming the target of many other members affection, do not lull yourself into thinking you will make a name for yourself as the "affectionate one"!
I am not just monitoring this thread, I am participating in it, and I can see it for myself.
We can spare one another the venum (of all the threads) in here, too much is at stake!!

Turk,

A couple of questions. In your statement # 2 you said that you can't use an older model year engine in a newer car. I agree with that so far as if you took a regular car and tried it, but by SB-100 you have the option as the owner of registering the car by the body year or engine year and if the referee disagrees he can change it to a 1960. Your CSX will be a 1965/66 when you register it most likely, but for another few days until SB-708 becomes law you could put a 1960 motor in it and register it by the motor year under SB-100. The car will still be a 2003 or whatever but will have the smog exemption.

# 6= They are after all cars period and not just Cobras, street rods and special construction cars.

# 7= There won't be any number once SB-100 is gone so that becomes irrelevant.

I hope that the persons I have talked to are wrong but according to them, my stock 1965 Comet with a 2 barrel 289 under SB-708 becomes prey for the state to mandate I make it meet their emission requirements. At present according to them this would carry back to 1959 cars of any kind. This is not to contradict you or start another big off tangent argument but to see if anyone else has any more information on this. Everything you said is true, you just never went far enough if what I have managed to find out is true. Keep checking and let us know if you find out more.

Ron

Turk - I have no misconception that I will ever be considered the "affectionate one". Hence my posts...But thanks for the tip.

Default CA Titles

I sat this one out for a while to see where it was going, seems as the bottom line is the the CALIFORNIANS need to take the Statehouse back from the idiots THEY voted in. While THEY are reading about the Hotrod (COBRA) title fiasco they should look at a few other laws that have went into effect over Moonbeams and the incumbents reign.
Oh well the weathers fine, RIGHT.... or is it LEFT?????

I can't take it any more. I have to post something.

I will say that the investigation is 100% true and I also had a search warrant served. I gave all the paperwork they asked for. I called the DA and talked to him about the investigation. For anyone out there that has been served, just cooperate and give them what they want. There were a random 20 people selected out of 1000's. Once the state has a clear cut case, I'm sure the others will be contacted.

I can't say much more other than do the right thing and cooperate.

Also, I rarely write posts on this forum because certain people(you know who you are), can't seem to stick to the subject matter. There are 9 f**k'n pages to this post and I almost gave up after 5. I only continued because It pertained to me directly. Well, this subject pertains to MANY people as you will see in the coming years so don't discourage them by writing BS that doesn't pertain to the subject matter.

PRGRIP-
Did you title your car through TU or did you buy it from someone who did? What did they ask? What were they looking for? What paper work did they ask for? What did the DA tell you about the investigation?

As many details as you and others who were "visited" can provide would be helpful.

The paperwork asked for was:

ANY paperwork documenting the purchase, titling, registration, and insurance for the vehicle.

The officers requesting the paperwork didn't know anything. They referred me to the DA of Yolo County and the lead investigator of the CHP.

Yes, I did title my car through TU. However, it was titled & registered in Montana for about 6 months prior to being registered in CA.

I can't say much more. If there is more I can talk about later, I will.

Um...Thanks again for being your usual thoughtful self.

No problem. You were the only one who asked for a clear-cut path to registration. I can't really do too much to help you with FL registration othe than with whats on my site...I'm working on getting some laws changed so that Mass Cobra owners can register in a similar and easy way.

I would have expected FFR to do something like that, since I've been told they make a ton of money, and their home state is Mass., and they've been selling kits there for almost 10 years...but I guess they don't have enough pull to do that.

Your pal,
Meat.

One word comes to mind in regards to your arrogance, your incomplete profile, and just about everything you have written so far that I can find in the archives of this forum:

Default Smog Checking

HI Turk
You said in a past post:
1-If you have a car that will accept a 1965 model engine, you should be subjected to the emissions that applied to that engine.
WRONG.!
You can't put an engine in a vehicle older than the model year of the vehicle hoping the engine alone would make you smog exempt.

I transfered a Cobra title here in California a few years ago. Mine was registered already as a 1991. Engine was a 1968. Smog requirements did go by the engine year. ( This was according to the smog referee station). The only emission hardware I needed to past smog was a PCV value. Has the law changed recently?

Yes. Significantly. And you can have your replica re-registered as well. If you looked at how to do it on my site, you'll find that your car is a good strong candidate to become smog exempt. If you need any help doing it, feel free to ask. I've done a whole bunch of cars under SB100.

Your pal,
Meat.

Man!!!! Why would anybody (except the hollywood morons) want to live in calif!!?? I don't care WHAT the weather is like, it isn't worth putting up with all the liberal idiots out there! After everything that Grey-out Davis has done to screw up that state, he gets voted back in office......THAT says it all about the folks in Calif, right there! Jeeez, and I thought living in the corrupt city of Chicago was bad.....of course the democrats just took over everything this past November, so give it time.....
Let me know when you ERA and SPF owners are ready to dump your cars......cheap! Ha! SUCKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mrmustang: "Schmuck" is right about Meat! Has anybody read what he has said about this forum on his website? Meat, go back to your "other" site.......you rate it #1 anyway. Everybody on this site are "snotty" according to you. Why associate with people like that?

Carleton,
In my haste to post I might not have made it clear enough.

I was basically talking about me buying a 2003 Monte Carlo and fitting in a early 350 motor to make it go fast. The motor might be 30 years old, the car is NOT!

Good luck getting it street legal in California.

If some of you with better memories, can remember, during the last year or so there have been more than one person here and in other forums who have threatened to blow the whistle on those not so legally registered.

I doubt it the state just decided, they had nothing else to do and went to look into Cobra registrations...

Someone brought it to their attention, and they had no choice but to investigate and they found out the complaints indeed had basis. They ran with it.

Do I know this for a fact? NO!!
It is just a gut feeling and a guess.

Take the advice of many in here and register your car the right way and take your chances with the SB-708.
You will be legal!

We don't need to give the insurance industry any more doubts about the validity and the legitemacy of the cars we love and drive.

Damn!!

Oh oh...

A post from someone who knows on the previous page made reference to the Yolo County DA. Now I 've been told that I have the memory (and ass) of an elephant, and some dots just connected up. Several months ago, a gentleman from that area of the State was being targeted by that same DA for the same type of thing just when the TU thing was beginning to boil, and was also being disciplined by his employer (a government agency is all I'll say) with possible termination on the horizon.

Don't know if he's reading this masterpiece of a thread, but Tom T. might recall what I'm thinking about. A politically-minded DA from an otherwise overlooked county can make wonderous mountains out of molehills--and it may very well explain where this came from.

I just read all 10 pages of this thread.

First:
No mention to engine size was made. you know -- SB v. BB.

Second:
California -- Great place to drive, vacation, to leave after a period of time. It would kill my dream of having a Cobra if I lived there.

Third:
Argo -- aaaahhhhhh -- stop posting on this topic. We get your point.

Forth:
If people trader their involvement with this thread to somehow bringing this to a higher attention better things would come from it.

Fifth:
Chaplin -- When I move back to New Jersey I need to spend some time with you understand everything you did with NJ DMV.

Sixth:
Post count After spending the good part of an hour reading this I deserve to get at least one post in!
