Search Warrants and All
Had some interesting vistors today, 5 CHP cars rolled into my driveway to serve me with a search warrant for all the records on my Cobra. My car is registered as a 1965 ford, I'm the second owner, apparently the first owner registered the car in Arkansas then in califnornia, then I bought it. The Califnoria Dept of Justice is now investigating the company in Arkansas for fraud. Has anyone else has this happen? and if so what is up?

Vprhunter ... I haven't heard anything like this happening and frankly, 5 CHPs sounds like a lot of manpower for something that didn't involve mass murder. What sort of records would you have that the DMV didn't have???
Oh, and just a heads-up. I notice that this is your first post here and you don't have any information in your profile. Be aware that the combination appears to many people as troll bait.

At least two of the BACC members homes were visited this morning by the CHP with warrants in hand. They indicated they were looking for 19 people in all. Fortunately they were at breakfast, but the wives were freaking out at home. These were Titles Unlimited cars. Nice to know that the crime situation in Ca. is so under control that the state can allocate its meager resources to this kind stupidity.

No doubt their looking for a "stolen car ring" kind of thing. I would think it will all clear up with time?

I'm not going to speculate, BUT DAMN IT, it's not like everyone hasn't been warned.
If the search warrant was listed as strictly Cobra records aka paperwork, then this is exactly what they are looking for. Nothing less and certainly nothing more!
I can tell tell you that "T.U." was under investigation roughly a year ago. Doesn't common sense come in here? I mean you make a phone call a company and you can get a title for practically any thing?
Gentlemen, please follow the rules of your state! Do not attempt to title your replica for anything other than it is. Lucky thing they didn't simply impound your car.
Now for the trolling post theory. I don't care! It at least brings this long time subject to an ugly head.
DV..Be safe and be smart..we wont be holding the Fling at any Police Impound lot!

There is no doubt in my mind these a-holes are only trying to collect on late/bad registrations and make some [more] $$$ for the state. The hatred/resentment runs too deep....any of you spineless law enforcement/DMV idiots listening ??

DV makes an excellent point. This is a serious matter, has been discussed before and should not come as a "complete" surprise. I think the DMV/CHP are making a sincere effort to catch car thiefs/fraud people. That is their job. Guilt or innocence will be determined later.
I had to "repo" a car some months ago and spent a couple of hours "explaining" it to the police after the guy reported it stolen. In the end, I was cleared. I TRIED to tell the police what I was going to do, but they wouldn't listen. Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do. BUT, you better be ready to "explain" it if you play outside the rules.
Hawaii has a car theft problem. Which is weird when you think about, "Where the hell are they going to go with the car?" Chop shops in the jungle, lots of them! They just found about a dozen cars, several almost NEW, some SO chopped they can't ID them! The police take "registration" issues very seriously here.

Hi Agro 1!
I guess I'm one of those spineless enforcement officers you're talking to and I'm listening. After 25 years of spineless service to the people of the State of Michigan, I retired from the Michigan State Police as a First Lieutenant. I am now a spineless professional photographer about to order my first Cobra.
You know Agro 1, when I was a young trooper people like you used to puzzle me. I spent 25 years risking my life for people I didn't know. Whether it was driving through pouring rain or blinding snow to get to someone who had been injured or trying to comfort the parents of a teenager who I just told their son or daughter had been killed in a motor vehicle crash (I never found an answer when they asked "Why?), I always felt my chosen profession was an honorable one. I learned over the years that most people like you really don't harbor malice, they just don't understand the nature of law enforcement and the sacrifices it demands.
You see, the truth is that murderers, rapists, and terrorists aren't really all that common (at least in Michigan). And while most of us would have liked nothing better than to interact with these kind of folks and arrest them by the truckload, that just isn't reality. While our first mission is to protect and defend, we also are called on to spinelessly enforce the more mudane laws that "ensure the public good and order". Yes, these also include registration laws related to motor vehicles.
If you stop and think about what these spineless CHP officers were doing, you might realize that preventing fraud, investigating stolen car rings, and enforcing registration and safety laws within the replica car community benefits all of us. God forbid you ever need a spineless officer if you wrap that Cobra around a stationary object some day.
By the way, during my 25 years I watched far too many Michigan State Troopers laid to rest (please visit the Michigan State Police Fallen Trooper website). All were protecting the public and performing tasks that most people would never even try. All wanted to go home at the end of their shift and be with their loved ones. These did not make it.
Two troopers (Trooper Mahalik and Trooper Scott) were dear friends whom I miss and mourn every day. Visit our website, see how they died. You may call them spineless, and, if they were here today, both would smile, shake your hand, and forgive your ignorance. By the way, when I next see their widows or one of their children, I will tell them you said "Hi".
If you haven't been there, done that, and survived with honor, please be slow to judge those who have.
Best Wishes,
Steve C

Hey Agro,
I don't think this is the way to make friends on this forum. There are people of all walks of life here. We all have our duties in life and police officers are one of those occupations that we need in society like it or not. I'm sure there are a few unsavory officers out there but for the most part we all do our jobs with pride and I for one felt that my 23 yrs of service made a difference. I too have lost good friends in the line of duty. It really hurts to here someone like yourself make generalized statements about an honorable profession. Personally I think you shoud reconsider your words. We are all on this board because we love these cars. Just look at DV, he's also a retired Columbus police officer and look at all he is doing. All this is because of his cobra family and one little girl with SF.

Steve C. -
Law Enforcement IS an honorable profession, right up there with [honest] politics and teaching. Don't get me wrong, I have all the respect in the world for noble causes - raiding someone’s home over vehicle registration is neither noble nor respectable. Something our law enforcement has taken for granted here in California...Why ?? Because it is the STATE that is being defrauded...If it were you or I filing a fraud claim, do you think they would send FIVE CHP officers to investigate ?? HELL NO. The claim would sit on some pencil pushers desk for months until you got any sort of response. Our law enforcement has forgotten their pledge to protect and serve, but has adopted a venal, grasping, and thoroughly self-serving attitude by which they carry out THEIR AGENDA.
All too often deceitful, unscrupulous, and manipulative behavior/intentions are the fuel of modern day public servants; a "Machiavellian" attitude if you will...Thus, private individuals resort to ruthless cunning as an appropriate reaction to the conduct of government. This government is who directs such law enforcement tactics for their OWN BENEFIT - not for the greater good of the public. Any cop that cannot realize this is either amoral and crooked or too stupid to question his superiors and is perfect for carrying out their tasks...If my boss asked me and four other individuals to carry out such a task, I would question our mission and WHO we would really be "protecting and serving".
I hate to see anyone die, especially while protecting the innocent. There is nothing nobler than those who protect the innocent and our freedom. However, I do not feel that was the case here. This (if it did indeed happen...) sounds like nothing more than the greedy State of California looking for some extra money to burn, in my [ignorant] opinion...
Flatliner - You don't protect my way of life, you serve a dishonest master who cares only for himself. I can protect my OWN way of life thank you very much.

Damn! Agro, you sure roll out alot of assumptions for a one time post. You don't know squat about what transpired at vprhunters house, yet you feel compelled to make all kinds of accusations about the leaders we mindless officers follow. If you truley believe all that mumbo jumbo crap then you're hopeless.
Anybody with any credibility would get the facts before flying off with all these half truth statements. It's for sure I don't know you and it would appear by your profile you really wouldn't care to know me or anyone else on this board. I come here to meet folks and maybe make some new friends. How about you? Why do you come here? If it's to tell us how much you dislike cops and the establishment then you got the wrong forum.
I'm proud of what I do for a living . How about you?

Hersh - I come here for info and spirited discussions - hence the thread...After learning that law enforcement and DMV officials monitor this site, I got rid of my profile - sorry. It was all there once, if you missed it too bad. I value my privacy, what can I say ?
RE: My assumptions - The post said FIVE CHP officers served a warrant for registration violations - which to the state of CA is considered FRAUD. Each cop carrying a piece to serve a search warrant for FRAUD, a non-violent offense, seems a bit severe to me. But then again, I'm hopeless...
If my posts and opinions re: law enforcement disturb you so much, then maybe you should reconsider your profession - otherwise deal with it. Because it is my right to voice such opinions, or did you forget that it is your JOB to be tolerant of other peoples opinions and beliefs ??
