Hi There,

We will be having an open house at our shop this coming Saturday. Some of our local customers have shown some interest in meeting with some fellow enthusiasts.

We will be sponsoring a Backdraft Racing Jacket in a draw for all cobra owners who have their cars present. We will also have a new 03 car available to take for a test drive for anybody who may be interested. Enzo from Finish Line will also be on hand to tell you about all the new accessories they are carrying.

The open house is for anybody who is interested in Cobras. There will be light snacks and drinks available and we would appreciate it if you could RSVP by e-mail at clubnews@backdraftracing.com .

We hope to see you on Saturday

I'm still trying to nail down what kind of rear suspension is on the back draft cars. What model year BMW years would be applicable?

Ernie
Ernie if you go to the backdraft website they do a very good job of describing the suspension

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

BODY. The body is reinforced at strategic points for extra strength. All the hanging components are double skinned to add extra strength to the overall structure.

PAINT WORK. After meticulous preparation, the body shell is painted using PPG paint. The body receives a show quality clear coat before it is buffed and ready to be fitted to the chassis.

CHASSIS. The chassis is constructed from top grade 2” x 4” rectangular steel tubing. The chassis is reinforced with steel plates in several areas to add strength to high stress areas. The final phase of the chassis building is completed when it is powder coated. This adds to the overall appearance and also helps to protect it from the environment, to help ensure a long life for your investment.

STEERING. The car comes standard with a rack and pinion steering system. The car can accommodate a power assisted steering on special order.

FRONT SUSPENSION. The front suspension has cast lower wishbones with a coil over strut. We also use a stabilizer bar which adds to the overall handling of the car.

REAR SUSPENSION. The car utilizes a full I.R.S (Independent, Rear, Suspension), system, with a centrally guided multi- link, 2 trackcontrol arms and one longitudinal arm. The rear suspension is fully adjustable and also comes with 3 way adjustable shockabsorbers.

BRAKES. The car features power brakes with discs all round. Ventillate discs in the front and solid discs in the rear provide excellent braking.

WHEELS. The wheels are a ‘Halibrand” style aluminum bolt on piece. They come in 15” as standard and can be upgraded to 17” as an optional extra.

INTERIOR. The interior comes fully carpeted with a top grade carpet and overlay mats as a standard feature. The seats, door panels and dash panel are all covered in a top quality leather. The drivers side seat comes standard with a adjustable seat slider fitted. The interior is not only functional, it is also very comfortable and we can accommodate a “taller” (in excess of 6 foot), driver. The interior is completed with VDO electronic gauges.

EXHAUST SYSTEM. Stainless steel headers and side pipes come as standard equipment. These are custom made for the cars and can be ceramic coated as an option.

ROLL BAR. The car comes standard with a driverside roll bar, which bolts directly to the chassis. This is a functional 3 piece unit.

GENERAL. The crate car comes with an aluminum radiator which is fitted with dual cooling fans. The hood has stainless rivets pre-fitted to resemble the original style 427SC. A tunnel mounted handbrake lever with an aluminum handle is fitted as standard equipment

Talking

Hey Reg

Looking forward to being there on Saturday. Talked to a couple of guys that might showup.

Hey Aumoore how ya doing? Can't wait to get back to Gainseville in April. Maybe CobraDoc will take the anchor out of the trunk and leave it at home.

Excaliber, come on out and see for yourself what Backdraft has to offer. I think that you will be quite impressed with what Reg and the gang have to offer.

Hi There,

I would like to thank Paula and Enzo from Finish Line , who have sent over a box of accessories to be handed out on Saturday. It looks like we should have a fairly good turn out from the response I have received

With regards to the suspension it is from a BMW 325/328 from 1993 to 1999. If you need to know how well it works come for a test drive.

We are hoping to have a rep at the Spring Fling this year. If I can't make it , I am sure Mike from Tri-States will have a few cars there.

Hope to see you on Saturday.

Regards Reg

I have seen a couple of these cars at our Texas Cobra Club annual event. I'll tell you they look very good for the money. The paint quality is good and the over all assebly was good. There is always things to be improved on in any car, no matter who builds it. The only concern I had with the car and this is a personall preferance, I did not like the way the steering linkage is hooked together. I am not saying it does'nt work. I said it was a personnal preferance. If it was "MY CAR" I would not have two steering knuckels with a steering shaft floating with no center support. To tell you the truth, it kinda scared me just looking at it. But, like I said it is a personnal preferance. Other than that the car looks good and seemed to be well built. The price is certainly right! The BMW front end looks great under the car.

The BMW's I have driven had excellent handling even through full-on four wheel drifts. I am curious about the $3,000.00 optional sport suspension. Does this come from an M3 or what?

Sorry, can't make the openhouse, the gas is too expensive!

RallyShake: Allow me to help. Yes the upgrade is an M3 package. Larger half shafts, shocks, bracks, the works. Also, the upgraded brakes require the 17' wheel upgrade to house them.

Question Backdraftracing

Like several of you, I am interested in the technical facts, not so much of the sales hype. While I am not an owner yet, it is my intent to visit three Cobra replicar manufacturers before making my final decision on purchasing a Cobra car. since the car will be used as much as a tool as something pretty to look at, things like IRS, braking, parts availability, workmanship, durability, horsepower and tranmission fitment, tire and wheel size, saftety all figure into the decision making. I am not into ambiguous statements. If a manufacturer is using a Jag 3rd member or Corvette suspension parts, GM brakes or Brimbo, with frame capability to handle 600 hp then I know something about those things and have a level of trust.....

Sam
